Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I just received my Teac HA-501 a few days ago.  I wholeheartedly agree that it is a magical combination with HD 650's.  I never want to come out from under the cans.

Did you try any other amps before the Teac?  I have the AH-01 and really like the build quality and the DAC/AMP section is really good, a little on the warmer side which I like with my HD-700 and RS2e.  I'm on this thread since I have a HD-650 ($290 amazon) coming in on Thursday or Friday and wanted to get another amp to drive it correctly.  Been reading a lot of threads for the phones that I have and the amps that I'm interested in, the more I read the more alternatives I'm hearing about, talk about info overload.

haha you made the right decision! while everyone was on the edge when it was 290.... now its back to 340.

note to anyone who is on the fence about the hd650 - if it ever drops below 300 again, dont hesitate :)

You can also find adorama selling open box HD650s for $309-313 with free shipping on a certain site. Offer $290, they usually take it from what I have heard.

I think WA7 is really good match for HD650 as all in one solution for crowded desk but for the best results I would get tube power supply and external DAC such as Bifrost Uber or DacMagic plus (my preference between the two)

Looks like both Adorama & Amazon have the 650's for $290 right now.  Kind of makes me want to buy another pair at that price.

Traveling for work and had to pack light, which means my old IEMs (Shure SE-420) + DragonFly. I haven't listened to the Shure monitors for some time (years); my 650s aren't in danger of losing their spot on the team as the franchise player, but I am hearing a lot of detail in recent music I am playing a lot that I've been missing with the 650s.

Uh, oh...

Really? I'm surprised you feel that way. IMHO, my SE425 even with custom shells don't even come anywhere close in terms of detail and resolution compared to my 650s.

Today my HD650s arrived :D.

Didn't have time to plug in the proper setup, but even out of my lg G3s headphone out they reminded me again why I fell in love with them. Smooth, romantic, and still detailed.

Now I just need to finish up my Bottlehead Crack and I can disappear into my listening room :)

BTW look up dyson audio sennheiser hd650 replacement cable. I just received mine in the mail with the headphones, 4 conductor silver plated litz cable, 5 feet long for right around $50 dollars. Great build quality it appears, nice heavy duty amphenol 1/4 jack. I need to give it a proper listen but some initial differences I heard was a slight more sparkle and extension to the treble. Will post more findings as everything burns in :)

Can you provide a picture of the cable, please?

Guess what I'm doing this weekend :)

Silly me bought a Crack/Speedball + 5998 and an S.E.X from fellow head-fiers. The S.E.X. showed up yesterday so I got in a good listen and wow! I started with the HD-650's and the spectrum was very nicely balanced and super-silky. What amazed me even more was plugging in my ATH-m50xBL's. They really took off to a new level, much more so than the Senns gained compared to being powered by a Fiio X5/e12 combo. The detail was a step up, and they already had good clarity, but the S.E.X. took the edge off what I find a slightly bright and fatiguing can. The range extension is incredible and the lower end far deeper than what the 650's can pull off.

Next up for testing is the Crack/Speedball. It has an Alps pot as well. I'll be trying out the stock tubes first, then move on to a Mazda input tube and a Tung Sol 5998, both of which came with it.

Oh happy days - will report back
