Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

I don't understand what people are talking about , when they say the 650's are "veiled". Could it be they're treble and micro-detail addicts? Because I don't hear it at all. Lol

Agreed. Those people who complain about a 'veil' are simply used to a more treble-emphasized sound.

I took advantage of this last night.  I've been hemming and hawing about what to get as this will be my first set of headphones.  This deal did me in.

Excellent first choice!  Welcome to the club!

Just make sure to pair them with a decent amp so you can hear them at their best.

Well, when compared to even Sennheiser's own HD700 and HD800, the HD650 definitely sounds softer in the mids and treble, and this is why some consider them to sound "veiled".

But this would only be realized in direct side-by-side comparison with another headphone.

I can't imagine anyone would think they sound obviously "veiled" when listening to and enjoying them on their own.

To get a cheap version of a Sennheiser, you could always buy a Grado (cheaper in USA) and stuff pillows in the ear cups. Instant Sennheiser. :flushed:

Sorry, Christmas is creeping in.

... you would also have to stuff pillows under the headband to avoid the Grado discomfort (I love my RS2i cans, but they are uncomfortable to wear, long-term).

If only USA could buy Senn at UK prices and UK could buy Grado at US prices. We'd all be happy.

Mind you, the HD650 has gone way up over here to £300 roughly, although some places offer it at around £240. So it's not that cheap here.

Nothing is cheap here. Except labour.

let's say the price is around 300 in most shops. then it's a geographical game, depending where you live it's 300$, or 300€ or even 300£. pretty simple in fact

.
but you'll notice that they remember conversion rates when the price is in rubles or yens. I would certainly don't mind getting a hd650 for 300yen. \o/

This is to the administrators: is there any way the printed advert at the bottom of many posts could be moved down a line as it makes each post extremely hard to read?

Love my HD650 and HD600 even my new HD598 are not bad.

But do I dare go up to the HD700 or HD800 will I get any better sound in doing so. I think the 650 and 600 and fantastic, never heard the 700 or 800

I also only use a Fiio E9 with the E7 or sometimes my E17 even use the D3 with the E9 from my mac for my 24 bit files and paired with the HD650 sounds great.

Really need to look into a tube amp to see what all the fuss is about, just wish I could get something good for $ 200.
