Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

What would guys say would be the best ZMF headphone for me if I love the sound signature of the HD6XX? I would like to eventually get the Atriums, but I was wondering if the Aeolus was pretty good too at half the price?
If you love the HD6XX sound signature give the Focal Elex a listen if you have a chance. I think you might be very impressed.

Thanks - I have the Focal Clear already so I wanted to try something different.

Sounds like a query for @jonathan c - he’s got several ZMF cans in addition to the 6xx.

Aeolus is a fine choice! I really enjoy mine. A good idea to ‘aim for’ Atrium later. Plus, Aeolus and Atrium can sonically coexist!

I agree, Aeolus is a good fit, but I haven't heard VO or VC. As with most/all ZMFs, you can pad roll to fine tune further. Atticus would be worth a try if you want a closed back.

Thanks @jonathan c - I’ve bene following you on the other thread “what are you listening to” and it’s good to hear feedback from someone that are familiar between all them.

My next question is, how do people get the really cool LTD colors on their ZMF headphones?

ZMF has had in the past a ‘ZMF November’. Not a sale with reduced prices - an open aperture in which custom wood & resin headphone designs are offered. Keep checking the ZMF website and the ‘sponsors thread’ in Head-Fi.

The DCA’s are sold, so now I’m down to the RS-1e - which continue to be a ‘work in progress as I roll pads to see if I can get them where I think they can go - and the 580/600/650 siblings, which will have to be pried from my cold Dead Head. Meanwhile, just to keep things interesting, despite my prior minor misgivings, I’ve decided the benefits outweigh any quibbles, real or imagined, and I’ve ordered two more sets of copper ringusses from @jfunk (CC), so that the 580’s and the 650’s can feel just as precious and loved as the 600’s.

Hi-dee-ho.

About the 580 s: Is there a ‘spider web’ frame to which the backweight rings may attach?
