Custom Cans mod + foam removal…Just for the record. I really like the 650. I just wish it was a little better in the details and imaging department. For the money it sure is hard to beat.
No sir, it is admiration!I sense a bit sarcasm
Does ‘more clean’ approach being ‘clinical’, ‘sterile’, ‘anechoic’…? If not, .I haven't noticed any type of compression applied when using them. I have done a lot of a/b testing. Maybe it's not obvious. Regardless I don't use an extreme amount of eq.
But, I do notice my HP'S sound more to my liking. I have a 31 band analog. It's not top of the line, but I do find the digital eq to be a tad more clean and versatile especially with multiple HP's.
I'm not here to question anyone's opinions. I'm just here to learn how to improve my listening enjoyment. Thanks for your input. Maybe I should do some more testing with transients and dynamic range in mind.
Less noise, Hiss, Hum. But I didn't have the correct balanced cables connected. Just RCA to 1/4 jack.Does ‘more clean’ approach being ‘clinical’, ‘sterile’, ‘anechoic’…? If not, .
Grado 325x or modded 650. To be honest I'm kinda leaning towards the 325, as I mentioned before in my prior post, the Elex sound similar to the 650. Budget doesn't allow both at this moment. I have no doubt that the mod would improve the 650 but it won't turn it into something totally different like a 325x that I regret selling. although the 650 is the better sounding HP in my book.Custom Cans mod + foam removal…
It must be hard trying to adjust a specific frequency with a mod. Although IMO the 650 doesn't need any frequency adjustment. Just some more details and separation.I don’t know about analog EQ, never tried it, but to me digital EQ always reduces dynamic range and transient coherency, yes without measuring it. If you can’t hear it that’s fine, but I always do physical mods for that reason.
Agreed. The only mod I had on my HD650 however was the CC backweight and different earpads. On other transducers that sound sharper, I prefer cotton. It must be hard trying to adjust a specific frequency with a mod. Although IMO the 650 doesn't need any frequency adjustment. plus the little Custom Cans "earplug" with the hole in the middle--sweet spot for my 6XX.Custom Cans mod + foam removal…
Well, yes, and I do, although I generally use them on different, yet similar, amps in different rooms on different systems (as opposed to swapping them back and forth in the same system). The CC modified 600s retain their neutrality, but are improved by the reinforced bass response. The 650s nevertheless remain warmer and more luxuriant, to my ear. Both are valid and I enjoy each on their own terms. Just to throw you a curveball, I also enjoy my original 25+ year old 580s (with rear foam removed, plastic grilles replaced with metal, Dekoni pads and 650 wire). The 580s are perhaps a little less ‘refined’ than either of their younger offspring - the more cerebral valedictorian 600s or the sexier prom queen 650s - but don’t sell them short; they are the sturdy stock from which the other two were bred, and have many of the good qualities of both without favoring either (as a good parent should).Hi,
Do you think the 650 and the cc-backed 600 different enough for one to own both? Tks
It’s good for you - I like the cnc ‘doughnut hole’ to be empty .plus the little Custom Cans "earplug" with the hole in the middle--sweet spot for my 6XX.
Hi PTW, HD600 more open, especially in the midrange with a clean/ clear mix of instruments and sound with a tight bass; HD650 not as opened and mixed but with better instrumental separation, also clear sounding overall within it’s own sound & good defined bass. Personally I like the HD650 with older recordings and the HD600 with better produced recordings.@BobG55 If you could sum up the difference between the 600 and 650 in one sentence how would you do that?
@Luckyleo Your last response comes off incredible pretentious and exactly what turns people off from this hobby. Lucky for you this hobby allows people to be incredible subjective and not get called out for it.
Ultimately we look for many qualities in a good set of cans, however imo tuning should ALWAYS be number one, and price certainly does not play the biggest role in that.
