Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

My HD6XX had the same head vice clamp as my HD650s, unbearably tight. I had to loosen them right away.

My new hd650 has the right tight with my head, I think mine has an average size.

Was thinking of trying the HD650 and need a good amp. I currently have the Little Dot 1+ which isn't really ideal. Now in the short run, I would probably be limited to getting something like the Little Dot mkII. I just wanted to see if any new suggestions for amps for the HD650 have come up. I'm familiar with the usual suspects: Darkvoice 336se, Little Dot mkIII, Shiit Valhalla II, Project Horizon, Woo Audio 6, and for ultimate performance something like the Feliks Elise (and some mega thousands buck amps). I have a preference for tubes as you can tell. Though for the short run I'm open to solid state under $300. Also any solid state amps you would suggest over the Little Dot mkII under $300?

I would stay with your LD 1+ for now and get a BH Crack or Elise when you have the funds. Just remember that you will have to spend some extra for decent / good tubes since the stock ones that come with both amps are not ideal for the HD650

Is the LD 1+ decent enough? I read where someone said it wasn't a good match. Although mine is modded with the best op amps and good tubes.

I have found that, to me at least, the HD650 sounds pretty great out of every amp I've used it on. Jotunheim, Fulla 2, magni 2, vali 2, DacPort slim, Valhalla 2, and BH Crack. The Jot and Crack are the best by a good amount, but I could live with any of the others. I think as long as you really like the way the HD650s sound in general you will be ok with just about anything until you can save for a better amp.

Maybe an iFi micro IDSD AMP?

Elemental Watson, Project Sunrise, Project Solstice, Magni3: all are about the smallest that I know of that will drive the HD650 well but might be harder for you to get in Italy. As for the LEDs just put a tape or color them with a marker or some like the Garage 1217 amps the LED can be turned off or the color changed to be less bright.

Add the iFi Micro Black Edition in there too, as a stand alone really, for the 650 sounds freakn awesome.
