Sennheiser HD650 & Massdrop HD6XX Impressions Thread

consider yourself lucky, I was getting a headache after 20-30 minutes :confounded:

The clamping pressure wouldn't be so bad if they chose a different material for the pads - but the hard memory foam is constantly pushing against your head which makes the pressure difficult to deal with for extended periods of time. The softer velour of the HD700/800 is much softer but would put your ear too close to the driver of the 650s thus changing the sound. It's pretty crazy how tightly a headphones sound is coupled to its pads, shape, size, and material choice.

The area that was an issue for me was at my jaw hinge where even a little pressure for a few minutes will cause me some discomfort. For me its how and where the pressure is applied that is the issue and not the materials them selves since I can use a Grado headphone (g-pads) for hours since there is no pressure on my jaw hinge.

How did you find the 800s then? I have a big head and these things touch the tip of my wisdom teeth almost all the way to the very top of my head. I've never had such large drivers on my face lol

The HD800 doesn't put pressure on my jaw hinge but there is a slight hot spot at the top for me that will get uncomfortable for me after 2-3 hours so its not a big deal.

The 800S put pressure on my jaw hinge muscles, but only the first few time I used them, then it went away and I find them to be the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn.

OT but for 800/s user who get unequal clamling force on your head : adjust to well place and condition before use. Not like as 650, 800 has much better flex joins for auto aim and balanced force.

For 650 it clamps a bit tigter than need. So you can bend head band before each use

Also the trick to put it on a basketball ball (or else) it’s so to avoid in favour to make a “U” shape to the full extended metal parts?

Me too that’s why I want to loose them.

I like the Dekoni ear pad memory foam because it's not hard, in fact it squishes easier than the Sennheiser stock pads. It's a very comfortable pad design/construction but it does have a different sound than the stock pads.

talking about headaches, i blame all my headaches on the headphones

Anyone else feel that way? I am sure i had headaches before i was introduced to head-fi craze, but its easier to blame it on headphones, coz they wont argue back

I guess I am just fortunate that I like the clamping pressure of the HD650 just how it is. I have a big head as well.
Yeah same here..it almost feels like it's not even there sometimes. Must be the original cans that do all the squeezing, mine are the HD6XX Massdrop version,

My HD 6XX felt a little tight when I got them, and I have a small head. I used the band-flexing technique described earlier in this thread and now they feel perfect.
