  Has anyone here heard significant improvements by throwing more expensive/powerful solid-state amplifiers at the HD650? I used it with a Fiio E10K (High Gain), O2, Schiit Magni 2, Violectric HPA V90 and JDS Labs The Element. Changes were extremely subtle, almost non-existant.

Tried the HD-650 with a Liquid Gold and McIntosh MHA-100, there was a subtle but noticeable difference to me in these two amps vs a Asgard2 or G-109, and it also sounded difference from a Liquid Glass and EC Balancing Act, better? maybe, but its still an individual preference.
 
There is also a subtle difference between my BH Crack, Ember and Lyr2, I like the presentation from the BH Crack best but I wouldn't call it better than the Ember, just more my taste.

I used to own a Bottlehead Crack + Speedball, now use a Bakoon HDA 5210 MK3.
The HD650's in my opinion are a match made in heaven with the Crack. Superb. And although they sound great, but not as good with the Bakoon amp (which is easily superior to the Crack imo)it just shows that you don't need to throw big dollars at an amp to extract great sound.
All my opinion of course.

I listened to my HD650 on a GSX Mk2 and really enjoyed the presentation (far far more then an HD800).  But don't expect to have an entirely different headphones, just because you plug it into an elite amplifier...

E10K, O2 and Element are ****. Haven't tried the V90. Magni will provide sound but that's it. More expensive amplifiers doesn't always equal better and it also comes down to preference. Significant improvements is a very subjective matter so we can't really tell you if you're gonna experince that. If you listen to alot of compressed music don't bother.

source matching is just as important as amp pairing. If your source isn't up to the task, it's going to hold back the overall presentation. On that note, schiit audio going to make an announcement tomorrow that should make quite a few folks happy. Keep your eyes peeled

With you on that. I own a Schiit Modi 2 Uber and it's the worse sounding DAC I've ever heard - absolutely lifeless.

I didn't like the Modi2uber connected with the USB, as you noted it was lifeless, but with the optical its seems a whole lot better.
