Agreed, these cans just slay the entire rock genre. With extra skill at classic and industrial rock.

I'm also doing Progressive Death Metal and stuff...

I will throw in a plug for New Wave (yes, I'm old...), even though I've been listening to a lot of Steven Wilson, lately.

Right now, I am listening to a DVD-Audio of Simple Minds' New Gold Dream I just picked up off of eBay.  The 5.1 mix is killer on my surround system, but listening to the ripped 2-channel version with my desktop rig and the HD 650s... it's like I am hearing the title track for the first time.  I just keep replaying it over and over... turning up the volume a little with each play.

My ears will be ringing at tomorrow morning

Ok... Bought a new one SerialNr.: 18XXXX and after listening to it for about 3 hours I have to say that, yes, there are differences between my old and this newer one:

The new ones are definetely faster, the highs brighter and with a bit more sparkle. Could be the pads. It's still laid back but not as much as my older ones. I'll update my impressions after 50 hours.

Are you in a position to switch the pads from one pair to the other?

Matrix M Stage vs Schiit Asgard vs O2 / ODAC?

In what way?

You asked Matt, But Ill give my opinion if you do not mind:

The M-stage was a bit dark and intimate with the HD650.(I am a tube guy, the M-stage sounds a bit tube-like without the tube harmonics so......)

The O2 is thin and lifeless with them(yeah "you don't like neutrality", no, I like soul in my music), but I do like the O2 with some cans (D7k, Kenwood KH-1000)

The Asgard was a good mix between  the two.

The A2 is very clean sounding with a slightly warm tilt...just a touch. I like the versatility of the gain switch and pre-amp. Very well built and a bargain at $250.

Chord Hugo is a great pairing with HD650s. Very musical and transparent. Clear highs, mids and strong hitting bass.  I recommend it to anyone with enough budget. I think this is the best I've heard HD650s.

I'll challenge your Chord Hugo with the Crack anytime for the 650 and at a fraction of the cost.
