though i've not heard the hd700 yet, i can second the e09k fiio, it's an awesome deal at the price,
if no one else has suggested, the schiit vali is killer too, i like it better than the fiio

I own for portable tasks Ifi Nano DSD.. it is really a good deal.. it can read whatever I throw it nativaly.. just amazing..up to DSD256!!! for US$180.. you just can't find any better currently in the market. it has nice amp, can handle all my cans without problem HD700, LCD-3, LCD-X. I've compare it with chord hugo side by side and you bearly can notice the difference if you have previleged ear.

Is a Schiit Modi+Vali better than the Ifi Nano DSD? 
I like that the Nano is portable and USB, then I can use it with my laptop at work. (I'm a webdeveloper so I sit with my computer all day)
But if it's much better, it's not worth it.

I don't know about the Nano's DAC but it seems that the Nano's Amp isn't more powerful than the E17.

You can have the "Nano iDSD + Schiit Vali" combo for $300 though.

The DAC of the nano is better than the modi IMO , the nano is very very good

Oh, can't power more than 150 ohms? The E17 can drive cans up to 150 and the HD700 is 150, but it doesn't seem to be working very well, but it's okay.
It's better than my less hungry cans even with the E17.
