Sennheiser HD 700 Impressions Thread

My Vali is first generation but I've read the some people find it suitable paired with the HD700s. Obviously if money was no object, there are 100s of better amps out there but I'm trying to upgrade as little as possible to have a noticable difference. I will certainly consider this when I do look to upgrade my amp. Would you say get a gen2 Vali or spend more and get the Valhalla?

Depends on what your future plans are. I recently bought a Valhalla 2 for my HD600 and 700 but I plan on buying either the Elears, Eikon, or Atticus in the coming months (followed by the HD800 at some point). The Valhalla did wonders for the HD600 and 700 and I've heard its tame enough to function well with lower impedance headphones. That being said, I have not heard the Vali, but from what I have heard of it, its a better option for lower impedance headphones.

There is also the Asgard. I had that for five years and there wasn't a single headphone I had that didn't sound good from that. From the HD600 to my Alessandro MS-1, it was never offensive. It's in the middle of the Vali and Valhalla. That may be worth looking into as well.

It all comes down to your long term plans.

Both Amazon and BestBuy.com have the Sennheiser HD 700 on sale for $498.99, and I just finally decided to buy them after having wanted them for over a year. :dt880smile:

I'm wondering if the recent Massdrop price of $399.99 for the HD 700 had anything to do with this sale... I didn't join the drop, and this is $100 more but still a great deal in my view.

IIRC when Massdrop had them for $399 they were $422 on Amazon, but even at $498 I still think they are a good deal also.

Both Amazon and B&H (whose prices seem to move in lockstep for whatever reason) had the HD 700 even lower a few months ago. I got it from B&H for $420 in March, and it briefly dipped to $400 a few days later.

The price seems to fluctuate rather substantially... it was $599 for much of May on Amazon. I wonder what the sales figures are for the HD 700, as the last drop on MD for the HD 700 moved < 200 units as I recall.

Bought a HD700 used for 150 Euro!! (170 dollar) . Even though my missus works at Sennheiser this couldn't beat it.

Now wait before equipment to arrive and enjoy..

Listened short at the seller... But what a spacious sound it has.
Hope I like it in the long run.
Looks like you love it or hate it.

PS.

Can someone tell me how to remove the headband padding? I want to wash it.

Got mine a few days ago... comfort is superb, sound surprised me at first, but quickly I became accustomed to it. Best detailed cans I have so far, although I only have mid-fi and budget cans. Cord is annoying. I really do love the sound, though!

I have about 15 sets of headphones and the HD700 is easily the most comfortable. They are my go to set for any long listening session...

The cable is about as bad as it get, tried a few ways to straighten them: hanging with a weight for a month, blow drier, wrapped around a 5 gal can for 2 months, nothing worked
