Yes, if done very carefully. If the whole membrane stays high after blowing, a gentle press over the coil will return it to the normal suspension position.
Taking care of headphones is something that my young cousin had to learn.
Again what comes to mind over and over again with the S2 is “full range”….just a super satisfying listen all round, a real pleasure to enjoy music, any music.
At my workplace I listen with xDSD Gryphon. The sound is fine if the volume is not set too high. When ever I replace my HDV820, I will bring it to my workplace.
Haven’t actually plugged them in side by each but so far the HD660S2 sounds excellent off the HDVD800.
Still undecided on the HD800, maybe it’s slightly warmer with smoother highs on the Bryston.
One thing at a time, so far the Cambridge CXN balanced to the HDVD800 sounds fine but it would only be matter of running an optical or coac from the CXN to the Sennheiser and then I could toggle between the two.
Back to the thread, HD660S2 wins in playback time by a big margin the last couple of days. It's somewhat dark nature is ideal for not causing fatigue and the old 6-series construction as always sits great on the head.
The HD660S2 just passed a test, Jethro Tulls album "A" is one of their most bland and soso sounding, even in the form of the Steven Wilson remix. BUT it sounds pretty exciting and engaging when using HD660S2
I just got my HD 660S2 today and I've listened off and on between meetings and I'm really digging the the S2's tuning. My go-to headphones these days are the Ultrasone Edition 11s, which I absolutely love. But these are a close second (and likely first for some music). Currently listening to some Dire Straits, but I did play some NIN, M83, Gorillaz, Parcels, etc just to see how different songs sound and so far so good! Definitely more bass information (maybe a little more slam vs the HD 600) and clean midrange and treble without being sibilant / bright. (Bifrost 2 / Magnius office rig)
I guess Sennheiser really did do a focus group study. The overwhelming number of positive impressions certainly says something. It appears that despite the wonky upper mid/lower treble response, it actually benefits modern music and modern recordings on mid-tier equipment. I will probably pick one up again when it goes on sale to see if it's a good fit for movies and games.
I’ve been listening to my S2’s steadily since receiving them on the 10th. I’ve really enjoyed them, but somehow today something’s different, they’ve really opened up! They’re so daggone good I can’t bring myself to stop listening! I won’t attribute it to break in, too controversial for here, but I have experienced an improvement, nonetheless…. I can’t bring myself to be analytical, I know they’re not the “best” and this or that headphone is “better”, but I, for one, am completely satisfied. I can completely immerse myself in the music without that constant nagging in the back of my mind, constantly analyzing, listening for shortcomings etc. Just listening and enjoying music, what a concept! Color me one happy customer, no regrets! For context, I’m on my 12th hour of my listening session….
