The HD600 (modified with UK Custom Cans CNC backweight) paired with Woo Audio WA6 (Brimar 12AT7 KB/FB) is pure :musical_note:🎶:musical_note:

I really am happy with my Class A SS Burson amps, but I think I need to add one of these Woo WA6/SE to my arsenal. Seems to be well made, not too crazy price, everyone seems to love it and it shouldn't be as limited as some of the OTL offerings out there. That being said, although I admit that the LCD-X have been the primary cans in the main system, last night was a bad night and, working at home, I hit the wall around 3 pm. Went into the bedroom, slipped on my CC back weight/Dekoni hybrid modified HD600s and simply decompressed to a live Dead recording from 1977 (Englishtown, Dick’s Picks 15). Not for the first time, made me rethink whether I really need anything more than my 580/600/650s. They are just right and, most importantly, they do a fantastic job of allowing you to forget about all the audiophile BS and just melt into the music. A GREAT couple of hours, well spent.

So, recently i did a full circle and purchased a pair of HD600 after last listening to them years ago. I've owned and heard many different HPs in between and it's amazing to realize how a HP released decades ago can still be an absolute sonic pleasure.

Tonally, I like the HD600 the best when compared to its sister models. The HD650 has a slight elevated mid bass in comparison, but will always have a special place in my heart as this is the HP that's responsible for getting me into this hobby and definitely pulls on the nostalgia factor. HD660s IMO have a more modern take with sound and is in line with other modern studio cans with upper-mid/lower-treble lift like the recent Beyers and Sennheiser's own HD560s. So most people depending on genre might prefer this over the HD600. But tonally, HD600 suits my preference the best. It's the most neutral and has this sort of dry nearfield monitor-like sound that I really like. Lack of bass is a non-issue for me, but might bother some depending on what HP you're accustomed to. All in all, they're all great cans and I'll gladly keep all three.

I'm going to buy finally HD600 for $300 on Amazon, the latest model (black romanian, not marbled irish).
My only concern was about if the new model sounds inferior to the old marbled but it seems are the same, also I prefer the new grey/black than the old marble.
So overall I'm fine with the purchase? Anything that I should to know before pull the trigger?

The stock cable is way too long for desktop use, so unless you're using it in a living room where the stereo is some distance from where you sit, I would get a shorter aftermarket cable.

👍🏼👍🏼
I have an HA160DS of the same vintage on the desk in my home office, connected only to an iMac via USB. It drives either HD580s or DCA Aeon Open X with equal aplomb, and, built in dac aside, there are many days when I think it’s the best headphone amp in the house.

Newer is not necessarily better.
