i liked the hd 600 and the hd 595 a bit before they broke down, after a few months

Yes, these Sennheiser 6-series break down faster than Chi-Fi. You hadn't read about it before buying? Pure garbage they are. Not sure why they've been making them for 3 decades now... surely the misplaced hype died after the first few hundred broken units were reported in the first year.

anyone else try the Custom Cans mass loading kit mod?

Really enjoying it...tighter yet fuller bass...and have removed the foam inserts behind the pads too..

I really like the Custom Cans mod on my 600s...the bass response has been extended and been made clearer. The resulting tonal balance is outstanding.

The HD600 certainly holds it's own even among most headphones that are several times its price. I bet that most people have never heard it's potential in a good vinyl system with a proper phono stage set up with a juicy gain and a good head amp. This is where the HD's can be stunning.
I would love to hear that

Only with absolutely pristine records. I'm CD only now not OCD! Too ham-fisted to care properly for vinyl, unfortunately...

I have no direct comparison, but for a music of my preference, HD600 is already a king on this planet, the only improvements can bring a good turntable or R2R NOS DAC and the amp.
