Right :0 I own both but leave my HD600 to its permanent duty at my BH Crack + EAD CD-1000 series III.

I've lost some interest in my DT880 because the earpads need replacement and I have the TH-X00 glued to my head at my desktop rig.

The DT880 played very well with the Asgard 2 though and when paired with higher end DACs it scales very well. It still has a more detail oriented sound than the HD600 and I think the HD600 has better balance but less subbass.

I think the new TH-X00 with Alpha pads has a better top-to-bottom frequency response than either DT880 or HD600. It plays better with modern music than HD600 or DT880  because of the better bass extension and physical oomph. I just listened to Prince - Diamonds and Pearls, Primus - My Name is Mud, and some Phoenix (I'm just scrolling through my playlist) and the TH-X00 seriously delivers :). much better than HD600 or DT880 IMO

Bashing the HD600 on the HD600 impression thread seems like a great way to make friends.

Though I want to hear the DT880 600ohms at canjam because they have a flatter phase than HD600 and at the same level of distortion according to innerfidelity measurements.

True, lol. The DT 880 600 ohm is honestly the best sounding DT 880, it's faster, smoother, has more body, and is more articulate than the 250 ohm. I found it had the least annoying treble of the DT 880s, brightness was pretty the same as the 250 ohm in my experience but the treble was more refined making it easier on the ears. More refined treble can honestly sound darker to the untrained ear when in actuality it's just the roughness making the treble making the less refined treble sound brighter. The Beyer vs Senn debate has been going on for a while.

Don`t get me wrong , the hd600 is a great headphone but my preference is toward the dt880. The hd600 is too mid-centerred for me and lacks some treble detail and bass that  the dt880 provide. The fact is the hd600 is too forgiving for me and too colored in the low-mids. My old man ears also appreciate the extended treble presentation of the dt880.

Neither headphone represent true "reality" IMO. The reason I piped in at this point is I bought a pair of hd600s a few years back based on similar hyperbole and was a bit disappointed.
I agree with the "natural" characterization to a point but it`s an idealized version of natural IMO. Like what we expect music should sound like maybe. I liked them quite a bit too but...

So this is considered "trolling" and now "bashing"??
lol...

Im looking at getting some HD 600s and the Magni 2 amp for electronic mixing duties, after tryign quite a few headphones recently none of them was quite what i was after.

Im looking for a very neutral, clean sounding phone with a good sound stage. Comfort is important and Im not interested in overly dark or bright sounding phones. Flat frequency, detail and punchy bass is important to me.

Headphones ive tried:

Beyerdynamic dt 880 250ohm > really comforatble but didnt like the treble. Sounded very tizzzy
Beyerdynamic dt 770 250ohm > comfortable again but to much bass emphasis, recessed mids and tizzy sounding treble
Sennheiser HD700 > demoed these in richer sounds and they sounded really good just a bit too expensive for me. Slightly on the darker side???
Sennheiser 598 > liked these very comforatbale with good deatil but not amazing.
Sennheiser PC 360 G4ME headset > use this mainly for gaming and casual listening but i actually really like the sound sig of these. Maybe a bit more low extension and detail would be nice
Grado SR325e > sounded awesome and very forward sounding with lots of detail. Nice tight bass but was very uncomfortable for me.
Audiotechnica athM50x > liked the overall sound but not really ideal for mixing purposes. Bass emphasis and slight recessed mids, treble seemed pleasant though
Audiotechnica athM70x > I like the sound of these for a closed back low impedance headphone they are awesome. Feel like im missing some sound stage and spaciousness though. treble seemed liek it had a wide bell curve emphasis???

Do the HD 600s with a magni 2 seem like an ideal fit for my tastes? Any alternative suggestions are welcome :)

You will like HD600 then. Bass quantity is moderate at best, but it's quite punchy nevertheless.

Based on what you said about liking the HD700, I feel like the HD600 would be a great fit for you. It's less dark than the HD700 and not as bright as the Beyerdynamic offerings. But basically it sounds to me like you're fond of the Sennheiser sound, in which case I think you'll like the HD600. I demoed an HD700 at a store at one point and I felt the HD600 is very similar without costing as much. Doesn't have the darkness of the HD700, but otherwise similar qualities.

Anyone have recommendations for another Audiophile grade headphone like the HD600 but different? Similar price point but maybe a more "fun" sound

Fidelio X2.

QC issues are too risky. Also I owned two and couldn't tell which sound was right.

It's not nearly as bad and for me it was worth the risk. The sound I'm getting is great.
