You're thinking of the hd580, which had a special edition called the jubilee in I think 96, which became the Hd600.

Are you correcting me or the other poster? Though i forgot about the jubilee. Im probably wrong then. I'm positive on the hd595 though. They were my first high end headphones I got right before college.

You. I bought my 580's in 95 I think, and remember wishing I would have known the jubilee's were around the corner. The 580's still sound great by the way. Sennheiser builds some very durable headphones.

So, do we agree on the following timeline?:

-1993: the original HD580 is inttoduced as their new flagship.

-1995: Sennheiser celebrate their 50th anniversary with an update to their flagship - the HD580 Jubilee Edition.

-1997: the Jubilee becomes the new standard flagship and gets rechristened as the HD600.

-2003: Sennheiser releases their flagship's brother, the HD650.

-2004: Sennheiser introduces the 5XX series with the HD595.

-2008: the next flagship is born - enter the HD 800.

-2010: the HD 595 gets its own update in the HD598.

-2015: the HD800 gets its own brother in the HD800S.

Is it right?

The hd800 was announced at CES in 2009. Don't forget about the hd700, which was unveiled in 2012.

And when the HD595 got updated into the HD598, both its lesser siblings got updated as well.

Actually I think putting the HD5x5 series into that post is rather odd, since we were talking about flagships and this series is not quite flagships in their own (more like entry level). If you want to mention the 5x5 and 5x8 series, I think it's better you mention the Momentums and other important Sennheisers as well.

Also, if you have auditioned the HD540 and HD560, you'll definitely try to include them in this post. Much better than the HD580, IMO

The original post was about only the HD598 and flagships, that's why I excluded the HD700 and other, non-HD series headphones. I will correct the 800's date, though.

This is just the release timeline of the HD5xx, HD6xx, and HD800/S. We may as well thrown in the HD700 seeing that these are the "main" items in the Sennheiser line.

OK, let's recap:

-1993: the original HD580 is introduced as Sennheiser's new flagship.

-1995: Sennheiser celebrate their 50th anniversary by updating their flagship - enter the HD580 Jubilee Edition.

-1997: the Jubilee becomes the new standard flagship and gets rechristened as the HD600.

-2003: the flagship gets a brother, the HD650.

-2004: Sennheiser introduces their entry-level 5X5 series with the HD595 (along with the HD515 and HD555).

-2009: a new flagship is born - meet the HD800.

-2010: after a cosmetic surgery, the HD5X5 series is reborn as the 5X8 series - here come the HD518, 558 and 598.

-2012: to bridge the gap between the HD600 and 800, Sennheiser brings to us the unique HD700.

-2015: just like the HD600 before it, the HD800 gets a new sibling, as the HD800S is introduced.

Did I get it right this time? :)
