Sennheiser HD 449 vs Audio Technica ATH-M50
Oct 18, 2013 at 1:07 PM Post #61 of 85
I suggest that you try the Shure 840 instead....

They are better than both of the headphones you have in your poll....

Don't really like the M50 personally and I tried the Sennheisers in the shop the bass sounded bad.

Shure 840 have tight bass, good mids and treble...

Thx for mentioning that! Shure Srh440 and Srh840 are good for acoustic and classical. But i think HD449 is the most superior for Classical and jazz music for the price(not for basshead). The clarity i think surpass the srh840 too. I think its a matter of personal taste now but with a musical knowledge.

What's up guys! As you can see, this is my first threats & I just joined.
I just wanna know which of these 2 headphones(HD 449 & ATH-M50) is/are better to drive with a iPod.
1)I don't owned any AMP
2)I'm not a bass fan
3) Mostly listen to Pop, Electeonic, A little bit of rock, acoustic & dubsteps
4)Not using it for Movies ONLY FOR MUSIC
5) I currently using XBA 4 & Incase Pivot(mostly XBA 4)
6) Not gonna use it on any other devices accepts my iPod & iPad.

So, can you please kindly tell me which of these 2 headphone is/are a better suit for me...

Thanks in advance

TBH I have not had much experience at all with the Sennheisers, just a very quick demo in a noisy shop with a bad source, so I cannot really say how good they are..... Compared the the M50 though which I owned for a few weeks the Shure 840 which I also owned were much better headphones in my opinion. Looking at the requirements in the original post they would prob be good.

HD449 is very natural, its like the cheaper and budget version of HD600.

Why not just get the HD428 instead of the 449, they sound exactly the same?
And are most of the time $80 or so less in price.

I just bought another set for beaters and they were in fact still sealed in the retail package, not Refurbs at all. $24.99 shipped to my door.

Looking at your sig why do you own about 20 budget headphones?

Why don't you sell some of them and buy some mid / high end headphones?

High end as in what? I already have 558/598/650 DT770 & 990 Denon D2000, Yeah not high end really, but I'm fine with these. I've tried other cans and I don't like them, Shures,AKG etc...As far as selling off some of the lower ends, I do time from time.
But if you look they cost under $100 or so and that is chump change too me at least. The low end Senns cost less then $40, anyone can pick them up themselves. I sale say a $20 HD428 and shipping is $12 cheapest or $36 cheapest overseas. It's not worth the time as buyers can get them cheaper locally.
Plus I like them :) I do have a TBSE for sale, but they don't have BASS so they won't sell...LOL, I'm asking $60 and they'll sit...Let alone I'm tossing in M50 pads $20 and a Monster icable another $20..That's $40 worth of extras...But they will sit.

Listen more carefully, HD449 is way a better value than 429. It is more smooth and refined. But Hd439 might worth considering their detachable cable.

Cans
Senn HD 419/428/439/558/598/650, Koss DJ100/TBSE, CALx2, Beyer Pro DT770/80/250 DT990/250 Pro , Denon AHD1001/D2000,
Source
Denon AVR2112CI
Marantz CD5004
Amp's
Meier Corda XXS
Matrix M-Satge w/LT1364
Schitt Magni/Modi Stack

Assuming you still own all of those.... You could sell about 9 of those and an amp and still have the good headphones left as well as enough money for probably some HE500 or TH600 or something + you already have an amp for them... Anyway you can do want I just saying because I am bored. Not sure what the point of owning loads of cheap headphones is when you have D2000, DT770, HD650 etc.

I say no, the 449 is $80 more and like I said they sound so much alike, Not to judge by graphs but just look, the 429 is actually a tad smoother at least from Sub-Mid Bass until the Mids, The 449 is a little crisper in the top end. But side by side, the difference is really small. IMO the 449 is the worst buy in the 400 series, as a Refurb 558 is cheaper as well.

Yeah maybe, But really if you look at it, Hd 428 cost $24.99 free shipping, The 419 cost me $31 free shipping, 439 cost $45 +$5 for shipping (Refurb), the $558 cost $110 shipped, 598 cost me $149.99 +tax at Frys, 650 I paid around retail about 4 years ago.      Koss DJ100, on sale for $70, TBSE was $52, The Cals cost me $80 for 3 sets new shipped (A few weeks ago) I paid $140 for my DT/80's I scored my 250's for $100, 990's cost me $130, Denon 1001 I paid full retail $150, the 2000's I bought right when they were blowing them out for $180.

So even if I sold 9 sets, I couldn't come up with a decent amount, I wouldn't charge what I paid for them, and going lower, Yeah they'd sell but is it really worth it it sell a headphone for $10, I have to pay postage, use gas to ship etc...Not worth it..   If I wanted the HE500 or TH600 I'd just buy them, I'm not hurting for cash :)  ....I like cheap sets, they're cheap, and if they sound like crap or break, no biggie!!   I have mid sets for home, and use the cheapos on the go, at the beach whatever..

You can help out if you want....LMAO......I forgot too add the Denon 700 to my list as well...:)  Forgot I had those...HAHAAA, I've too many cans.!!

m50 by go F yourself. The 449's have delicious rippling bass if you listen to the right music. I'm glad I bought them.

Also, with any sound equipment you use, PLEASE TEST IT with SRS Audio Sandbox FIRST before you throw in negative comments. Life changes when you hear the sound like it's supposed to be.

HD4x8/4x9 aren't bad, but I think HD205, HD280, and HD360 destroy them within their own brand and price bracket.

The HD205 are horrid, even the HD202 is arugeably better.

I like 205.  If I were on a really tight budget, I could be happy with 205's sound.  I would add a little extra dampening/filtering in the cups to deal with the upper mids resonances, it is a fine can otherwise.
The headband seems fragile on the sides, but so are HD4x8/4x9's horizontally-rotating hinges.
