Okay, this the most What answer I've ever read.

This is an answer from Sennheiser from my inquiry regarding an Android-compatible cable:

-------------------------------------

Good Afternoon Mr Lubczyk,

Thank you for contacting Sennheiser. At this time Sennheiser does
not offer an Android compatible microphone. The reason for this is
every phone manufacturer uses different wiring in their connection
ports which makes impossible to create a microphone that is
compatible across all models. If Sennheiser was to attempt to make a
microphone for each model and maintain the quality of audio that is
expected from Sennheiser the price would be far to high to justify
within the marketplace.

Have a great day.

What? Different wiring?  You're telling me that relatively small-time companies like V-moda, Monster and Phillips can make Android along with Iphone mics for their headphones, while the world's largest headphone manufacturer can't?

Oh, and about the price being too high to justify Android' marketshare:

Android has 52% of U.S. marketshare versus Apple's 33%. That's what they call not enough marketshare?

Android has more marketshare, but not every phone is made the same. For one, BlackBerries and some Androids are able to switch between the two cable types (mic/gnd/right/left vs gnd/mic/right/left), same with other legacy devices like Windows Mobile. Also, iPhone users are more likely to tool up their phones with third party accessories than android users.

Still, I'm with you about providing a separate cable; heck I'd be happy if they sold the headphones without the mic so my phone wouldnt have a conniption.

Hello everyone! Apologies for not answering your queries earlier as I'm still in Berlin attending the IFA show. Anyway, here are some quick information on the MOMENTUM. I'll try to get online again tomorrow to answer any other questions.

The MOMENTUM will be available from mid-September.

They utilise new drivers, not the same as either the HD 25 or Amperior.

Thank you Rosmadi.  That is great news for many of us and makes me much more excited to hear Momentum.  As a suggestion, you may want to address some of the misinformation on other sites where they say you are using the HD25 drivers.

I'm assuming thats a worldwide release including the US markets or if that's just the release for Europe markets. I can't find anything about them on the US sennheiser site at all.

Here's one more post before I head out to the fair again. Yes, the MOMENTUM will be available globally, including the US. They will also be available via Apple. We're currently in the midst of delivering to our partners so you should be able to see/hear more details very soon.

Reading the web and noticed that the Momentum comes with a semi-hard carry case while the Amperior does not have one? Will be back in Singapore in the next couple of weeks. Any idea if the Sennheiser HD 25 (non-adidas), Amperior and Momentum is available there?

Talking about drivers being the same or different. You cannot claim the driver to be the major contributor to the way a headphone sounds. All other making minor differences. Some 200$ driver are used in very upmarket speaker producing a sound so different than cheaper speaker using same driver that you would not believe it. Not just a matter of materials, but shape, size and rigidity of the cup and the same variables with the pads and even the headband and the ergonimics have a lot to do with what seal you will achieve and from which angle the sound will hit your ears. All of that might mean more than the driver on its own

Well, if you've got a point to make, why don't you explain it?

Well if you don't have a driver, you don't have a speaker for one. A headphone without a driver is useless if you're expecting to hear music through it. I would think that qualifies the driver as being the heart of a headphone, no? You can make cheap or expensive headphones, but all headphones require a driver to function properly, just as the human requires a heart or pumping mechanism to deliver blood throughout the body.

That is definitely a run-around answer.  Though, they were saying that adding that feature would add cost to the headphone such that it would make said models not competitive in the headphone marketplace.  They were not saying that Android marketSHARE was not sufficient to justify the feature.  I don't agree with their statement, but you are interpreting it incorrectly.
