How different is the sound to the original? Does it at least have a wider soundstage? Is it more refined? I love my HD25s but I have to agree with the statement above; $150 is a lot of dough to throw away

 
It would be funny if the original HD25 sounded the same with the Amperiors when you changed its ear pads, damping foams and cables. Which you can do-it-youself Senns just shot themselves a bullet in their foot.

Really want to hear these.

The Amperior is basically the same as the HD 25, but with a lower impedance and flashy blue or silver earcups and swivel buttons.
 
The earpads are of a different material as well.

Well it's not just blue or silver.  It's anodized machined Aluminum (not cheap basic castings) w/ foam damping pads.

Just a inkling.

Very unlikely - the HD 25 are professional headphones that are the industry standard in large parts of the world.
 
The Amperior is a tarted up consumer version (at higher cost) that is of lower impedance and comes with an iPod remote.
 
A pro would not buy the Amperior, so there is no need to stop the HD 25.

You just pull the mini-plugs out of the earcups - it's the same connector that the HD 414, HD 420, HD 600, HD 650 and loads of other Sennheiser headphones use and have used for very many years.
 
The cable over the headband just pushes into a slot and to remove completely you just unscrew the cable clamp on the headband.

I'd be a little worried this time around though.  Sennheiser has been more strict about adhering to their pricing structure for retailers than in the past.  Case in point hd-800 and hd-700, price spike in hd-650.

According to Tyll, the Amperiors are worth it. I'll be looking forward to auditioning them when available.

Just read that in Tyll's interview he compared the Amperior w/ velour pads to the HD25 w/ pleather pads. Can anyone tell from their HD25 how much of a sound difference there is when contrasting the two kinds of pads?
