Seiun player, $150 player with monster spec. Too good to be true?

Yeah... just a box... like the other pictures so far... and, as they say: "The pictures are NOT final prototype". And this box is scheduled to be delivered in the end of this month.

Not a single word about the specifications doubts.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe this is the first photograph (not render) of the pro / pro x
If the actual product has specs that are totally different than what was promised in IDD, you can sue them for all you like.
I'd commend Cyberdrive for showing us proof that the device is still undergoing development.
Being in the manufacturing industry, delays and even slight hardware changes are bound to happen and this is normal.
Not everything feasibility study will be 100% accurate.
So give them a break man.

Is this the first time that we see a non-render picture?

It may be, but the bigger issue is that they have been reluctant to give us final specification specifics the only "real" picture we have isnt even the actual product.

They specifically said this in the indiegogo update: ""The pictures are NOT final prototype""

The ship date is March. That these two pieces of the puzzle are missing is extremely concerning. I dont want to fall victim to the dark side, but i have an inkling feeling that they aren't saying anything so that they can keep us on the hook until we receive our product and it will be too late to ask for a refund. Otherwise, posting the specs that people do not want would just make everyone jump ship early. They might just be trying to avoid having a full inventory of product that they cant get rid of by keeping us in the dark.

Relax. I am sure they will deliver. I do not believe, that there will be much different specs. At this point of time, the hardware must be more or less set.

On the other hand, I cannot imagine that it will be delivered in march. If that is not the final prototype, then there is still some stuff left to do.

I am definite that they will deliver. The question will be the quality of the product.

They have stipulated time and time again that they can and will provide the performance and specs that we wanted. What happened?

We lost the dedicated headphone amp in the DAP. They downgraded the DAC from an ESS Saber 9018s to a 9018Q2C. Finally, they promised us a 1.8 ohm output impedance, but then they quietly changed it to 4.7 ohms without even an email or an update. A DAP that has 4.7 ohms output impedance means that most if not all 32 ohm headphones will be unusable, not to mention sensitive iems with 8ohms or 16 ohms impedance. That is a huuuuge noise floor. CyberDrive hasnt even attempted to ease their backers' concerns in the slightest since then. With that output impedance the DAP wont even be able to successfully drive their own Impact Dura earbuds that they are bundling the product.

Their answer for the loss of the Amp chip in the DAP? Buy our headphone amp to supplement the loss. As if shelling out another 220 dollars for a separate product is acceptable. Worst of all is the lack of transparency and communication to the backers, even now when they should be in mass production mode already.

If that is the case and the product is being manufactured.. why keep us in the dark instead of showing us final production images and releasing the finalized specs?

A lot of speculation for a DAP which has not been released under its final form.

Honestly, please try to relax. A spec sheet is far from enough to be able to judge something, and even when choosing the best components, there is still a risk of screwing the final implementation (please look at the smartphone market, it is the perfect example of this).

May you shouldn't go for crowdfunding if you want to avoid uncertainty and risk.

Even normal companies with a good history have recently released DAPs with galores of bugs, from the expensive FiiO X7 to the cheaper iBasso DX80, not forgetting the XDuoo X3 and its screwed clock frequency. Despite this, all these companies are still around promising bug corrections that may not ever happen or take years to be solved.

We should at least give CD the benefit of the doubt as long as we don't have the actual products available for testing.
I'll be the first to be vocal if performance vastly differs from their claims.

PS: when time of launch is near and you're trying to solve technical problems with a launch date you can't change, communication is not your first priority. Solving issues to prevent further delays is.

We saw prototypes months ago.. PCBs
That case looked very finished.

A tweaked PCB isn't an issue as a big batch run of pure SMT cards can be knocked out in a day....
Big phone manufacturers can do a million a week easy.
Every backer could pay $3 each to higher a person to answer the world wide constant enquires by asking different teams in different time zones...Yup.
If they build it..It will come...
Then the real discussion begins...
Keep smiling...

This was actually my second crowdfunding effort, the first one went so smoothly that i thought this one would too since it looked so polished and informative. For the first even with delays they were very transparent and communicative and kept in touch with backers all along the way to reassure us. They even decided to push back the deadline because the initial manufacturer couldnt make the headphones to their quality standards, a decision that was respected by the backers. To each company his own, i guess haha

Just reiterate why if the case is production ready I am happy. I work in manufacturing engineering for electronic assembly. I was trained as a metals machinist.

Assembly runs of electronic are easy.
It can take longer to rework a board than make it...

Machining aluminium blocks.... for a case chassis...

Headphone review of the new X7 DAP:

"The X7’s build quality is very good and right up there with the best. As a matter of fact it takes Fiio quite a while to make just one unit: 160 minutes to cut out of the aluminum block (CNC machining), 80 minutes for color anodizing, 100 minutes for buttons machining and 50 minutes for the amplifier module machining. Phew.."

Don't forget assembly of all parts electronics and screen parts....

The only worry is SQ, when I can hear that then worry... In the mean time over to Bob for a weather update. ..

Totally agree.
I'm actually a project manager in R&D and communication is supposed to be the key ("supposed to be" because time always works against you).

What you describe above is the perfect example of a crowdfunding project led by a very skilled project manager.
Unfortunately, you can also find less gifted individuals running projects, hence a communication which can be less smooth or even severely lacking.

I wasn't trying to argue with you, we're lacking information here but we shouldn't jump to conclusions, that's all.
