Seiun player, $150 player with monster spec. Too good to be true?

Well it looks like CD is just going to change what ever they want...  they advertised one product with X specs and now willy nilly change it as they please....   if you backed the original design and feel that you are being cheated then you should file a complaint and ask that all funds be returned...

Sure I remember seeing a thread on here debating the merits of the S vs 2xK2M before for another player, with split opinion. I don't know enough about the difference to know if this will be good or bad, so can anyone explain what are the main downsides to changing the chipset in this manner?

8 channels to 4 channels (dual stereo)

desktop vs portable

Higher power consumption vs lower power consumption

higher SNR vs lower SNR

etc ............ the S is better in every way except on power consumption . but the rated battery life is high enough already.

Maybe the cost of the 9018S are too high so that they have to resort to the pair of 9018K2M?

I seriously doubt that the difference in price will be much.

Then what might have them cornered and forced to play a hand?
Sourcing DAC's?

They said that ESS recommended the K2M over the S and also they found the K2M to be better.

purely better performance or just better value?

That is that they said though, not sure about the true reason over the change.

Whatever the reason they must have had a bit of a shock from the community's reaction. Wiser heads at the start of the thread mentioned the word implementation. That's always been the case in any product...I still have faith I will get something and a good deal for the IDGG Price.
Waiting a while longer to perfect it isn't an issue for me,this never was "Buy it now" on Amazon. As long as it isn't a LH LABS 3 year debacle...

Not long now even if it's late April..

Which is still a fast turnaround for developing and producing a new product with a tiny team.

A bad product makes no sense... The best of mid fi market is headfi domain.
If it's killed here where is there left to go. You can't hide from Google..

But I still have faith. Same or better than my FIIOX3 II I am happy...

Keep smiling, it's just electronics..

Wise words. It's all about the sound, and how they present it.

I think they might have learnt a few lessons about the negative effect ignoring your client base on a crowdfunding project has, tho...

From my experience building my own speaker systems, rolling op-amps and such, good audio is relative to the WHOLE system. Matching components is very important. You can have the "best" single component that just might not work as well as a "lesser" one with its surrounding parts. Better battery life is useful too for all of us, I really don't think the CD engineers are out to degrade their own product before they can make their money back by the time it is available to the masses.
