Seiun player, $150 player with monster spec. Too good to be true?

Anyone reckon we will see one of those leather cases they sent the pencil sketches around on a few months back as part of the final PHA/Pro/Pro X bundles? I know people are still concerned about the viability of the main product, but I've always been one to fixate on the little details! ;)

Some comments on indiegogo as of today:

Comment made by "Paul Fishburn":
"Guys just checked the block diagram and they basically did a bait and switch with the block diagram. I checked the other day and it showed the “ESS9018S” but now it’s showing the “9018K2M” they didn’t even bother extending the block size to fit the new DAC. It’s looking like another Geek Wave, which makes me question the credibility of their product now."

Comment made by "derlu":
"your right. it could sound really good. But i think the point for me is a different one: i have 2 devices using the k2m (pono, DX90). With these specs i’ve never backed this product. And in this case i would have also rejected my pledge for the ProX (because of the missing seperate Headphone Amp). I cant believe that they manipulated the Block-Diagram (and in such an amateurish way). I think the decision is made. They use the 9018k2m."

On the plus side from Cyberdrive employee Lucy Liu:

"Hi there, we understand you really want to get answer from Cyberdrive about your questions. According I was told, our company hasn't made final decision yet. They will try to announce the updates about PHA very soon. Thanks"

This may either be a good thing or a bad thing. Good meaning they are still working on final specs. Bad because combined with the just now  bait and switch of the revised block diagram they are going with the K2M chip and are trying to hide the chip switch and cover themselves legally. by not telling us definitively they are keeping people from trying to get refunds.

Also many backers arent having any luck getting refunds from Cyberdrive, who is unresponsive.

Lucy Liu just confirmed that you could get a full refund just by asking, if you're not willing to take the risk.

Thank goodness.  Now maybe some of these guys will go for a refund and stop complaining...  I would just ask, though, that isn't part of our hobby the willingness to take some risks and check into the unknown?  All I can say to those that want refunds is please take them and stop complaining and go away...  Let the rest of us take our risks....

isnt it understandable that some backers Are unsatisfied with the way CD changes specs of their devices? Maybe there havent been such an anger if CD had shown some transparency.

Yeah i agree with you that there is always a risk in crowdfundings. But why don't Tell the backers the changes?

By the way. I think that the whole staff of CD changed. Im curious why.

Here the Email ive got today:

Thanks for your message. We hope to improve our communication in the future.
Since the previous staff left, I, myself may not have enough technical knowledge to answer a lot of question immediately.
I am sorry if the communication did not go through at the same time, but the team will work on the update in the future.

Thank you very much for your supporting!
Any question on the orders, we will accept backer's request. Thanks,
Sincerely,

The Cyberdrive Team

I was also not happy about the unannounced changes. The update and information today were a good step in my opinion and helped to clear up a few things. And the fact that they offer refunds to unhappy backers of the PHA, plus a free pair of their earphones (if I understood the update correctly) are good as well. Hopefully some of the very unhappy backers will have an option to leave the campaign now. I will ride this one out and look forward to their gear.

do i understand it right, that the PHA isn't a real dual mono 9018k2m? one k2m for the stereo and one for the Balanced?

Yes it seems like it.

So the chip change is in the PHA (headphone amp) anyway, not the player (Seiun Pro/X), right? Were the exact chips even specified yet for the amp? Is it even promised/in production yet?
Im not a backer of the PHA, so its not really my concern, but it does seem a lot a speculation has tainted this thread. Like i said earlier, a chip change isnt necessarily bad anyway, and noone really knows anything because its not even made/heard yet. I am still quite hopeful i will get my backer $ worth in the pro-x player when it is delivered.

I sent a few questions about the basic player and how ****ty it is to their staff, still no word after a week on why this thing seems to crash with more than about 50 gigs of music on it.

Just received the Seiun player. I transferred some Ogg files, and they didn't work, although they work flawlessly on my Fiio.

On the other hand, iTunes AAC works.

Anyone with similar experience?
