Schiit Valhalla Tube Rolling thread.

Well, it's Tuesday morning and I am starting off with socket savers all around. And back to what I think are my best tubes, the Amperex 6DJ8/ECC88's. Hard to be sure though considering how long it takes to change tubes.

Now it is time to do some A-B'ing between this and the LD MK9.

The LD MK9 leads in minor burns by having huge, hot tubes and a power button on the back. Also leads in hum with no music playing.

The Valhalla 2 leads in quiet. If you pause the music and max the volume knob, there is no sound.
The Valhalla 2 is also smaller, lighter, shorter and IMO, more attractive. Power button is also on the back, but easier to get to.

Rest of the week is head to head.:L3000:

PS: No more hot volume knob. Yay!
It always seemed to me like the tubes in the Valhalla were set lower than ideal. Not just for heat, but for glowy enjoyment too

Having a cool volume knob is a big plus. Stock, the LD and the V2 have HOT cases that extend right out to the volume knob.

I will take a night pic if I am still listening. It is light now until almost 8:30 and my SO likes to watch TV together in the evenings.

With Valhalla 2, remember that the amplifier body is functioning as a heat sink … so it is meant to get warm/hot. Socket savers / tube risers are still a great idea for Valhalla 2 cooling / tube roll easing.

Thanks Jonathan! Do you have recommendations for the type of risers to use for Valhalla 2? As you know by now, I'm completely lost when it comes to anything "Tubey"

Thanks

• The best ones are from Pulse Tube Store (in India). They make the adapters / risers / savers for Tubemonger. The PTS risers are non-microphonic. See ‘pulsetubestore.com’.
• I have ordered quite a few times from PTS for adapters and for tubes. First-rate merchandise, first-rate service, fast shipping. Sanjiv M., the tube aficionado / proprietor of PTS is a gentleman.

I bought some 6H6N tube someone was raving about here. Stupid tube blew and took out a more expensive fuse than the tube that was in my Dartzeel. I may have also ruined a REL sub. I should have stuck with the stock tubes.
Hi all!

I just signed up for DH
As a pro-specialist, I've been making tubes amplifiers for over 40 years, but small headphone amps are a hobby of the last few years! Mainly thanks to Reflektor Holy Grail '75 6N23P SWGP Silver Shields

Therefore, I was very interested in Schiit (its evolution) and even more Valhalla (in stock with a set of Soviet tubes from the 70-80s!)
Your case, when a faulty tube caused damage to devices on both sides, is very interesting to me! I would be grateful if you would describe your case in more detail!

I don't have a Valhalla 2 circuit at the moment, but I will be getting this amp for analysis soon! Your case will be the first in my possible experiments.

+1. Only good experience in all aspects dealing with Pulse.

One of my 12Axx to ECC88 adapters from Pulse started to fail (at first I thought one of my RFT tubes was dying). After narrowing it down to the adaptor I reached out to Sanjiv at Pulse. Within an hour he responded and said he would replace it and asked if I would mind paying the shipping since it had been over two years since I had purchased it. Nine days later I had the replacement. I was very pleased with his response and I believe there is a sonic improvement over the Chinese adapters I had been using.

That is good service. I am debating ordering some adapters from him.

Lads, can I install 12BH7Eh tubes on it? Do the tubes have to be properly matched?
Hello
The indicated tube can only work in Valhalla through a converter!
I don't think it's a good idea to try it!
This tubes is not a close analogue of either 6N1P or 6N6P
In the Valhalla scheme, both the first and second lamps should be as balanced as possible and close in parameters to a pair in the adjacent channel.
Therefore, any replacement of tubes requires preliminary testing of them, then the result of the replacement will be much better.
