Schiit Valhalla 3 - Impressions Thread

Seriously considering picking one of these up. For those who have their Valhalla 3, how "tubey" does it sound? I'm happy with my solid state setup (for now) and want a tube amp to have something very different sounding for that tube magic. Most of my headphones are dynamics (Verite, Atrium, HD600, HD800, etc.)

Then you ought to order it right away.

All of the headphones you've listed should be excellent candidates for a Tube amp like the Valhalla 3 and other OTL Tube Amps. You're already half way there!!

Anyone know if you can roll E80CC tubes on the Val 3?

I received my silver Valhalla 3 today — was sure to be home at the specific time for the signature-required FedEx delivery, which completed without a hitch.

But no tubes.

I've emailed Schiit, and I assume they will take care of it (they sent out a replacement for a buzzing power supply of a different unit previously).

Anyone else receive a Valhalla 3 with no tubes?

EDIT: How did your Valhalla 3 tubes come packed? In the box with the amp? In a separate shipping box? In a seperate box than the amp but same outer shipping box?
Mine arrived today with tubes packed with the Valhalla 3 unit. It’s a small box with padded compartments for the tubes. Sorry to hear yours did not ship with the tubes.

Random thought. I've had the Feliks Audio Espressivo for a long while. It is the predecessor to their Echo MKII model. I'm not well versed in describing what I hear, TBH, not sure what I hear :disappointed_relieved:. That being said, I honestly think the Valhalla 3 is far superior to it. I know that for sure! (for me of course) I also have the ZMF Aegis and although it meets its match, V3 holds its own and is not embarrassed. My point is that I highly recommend the Valhalla 3 to those who may be considering a purchase. Also, I've seen a couple people ask about "Tubyness". I'm not aware of any specific definition, but for me, yes this is a very tubey tube amp!

🤯

Wow... that's pretty inexcusable. Shame. That's like buying a headphone that comes without Pads on it or they forget to include the HP cable. Come on Schiit!! Do Better!!
I wholeheartedly agree.
Will be addressed first thing Monday morning.

  • Impedance multiplier. We’ve also added an impedance multiplier so Valhalla 3 can drive a wider range of headphones. Tubes are usually very current-limited, so they’re not spectacular for low-impedance headphones. The impedance multiplier makes the tubes in Valhalla 3 act like they are driving a higher impedance load. This makes for much higher power output.
so about this tidbit for this amp on their website, does this amp play friendly with hifiman planars? i'm using a 35ohm one. it'd be cool if someone could test it and report back

I have the OG Arya and they work spectacularly with the Valhalla 3 in high gain w/ impedance multiplier on.
