I've been a long-time consumer of head-fi content, mostly related to product research.  I decided recently to buy a Magni 2 Uber and Modi 2 Uber to replace my cheaper system at work (FiiO E17/E09 combo), primarily based on the reviews and good reputation Schiit has on this site.  The combo arrived today, and I was immediately disappointed to see that the Modi case was slightly curved near the back (about 1-2 mm off) and coax input was not straight (links below).  I emailed asking for an exchange and included pics, but they said it was "within the realm of normal" and would not do an exchange.  Anyway... you be the judge; does that seem like the appropriate response from Schiit?  Or am I being too picky?

You being too picky, it be something different if it didn't work or was badly damaged.

Yup, too picky. How does it sound?

I'm presently using a first gen Modi, going out to a Gilmore Lite to power AD2000 and a Vali to power HD800.   I would like to upgrade for the wealth of inputs over what my Modi offers.  What does a Bifrost Uber offer over a Modi 2 Uber?  It's been asked recently, but I couldn't find any replies.

Quote:
When people compare the Modi 2 Uber to the Bifrost, is it because of SQ or wealth of inputs/outputs?

So, why would someone upgrade from Modi 2 Uber to Bifrost Uber? Also, aren't the inputs/outputs the same when both are pimped out?

Modi 2 Uber: The Complete Mini-DAC
Honey, I shrunk the Bifrost! That’s the idea behind Modi 2 Uber. Like Bifrost, Modi 2 Uber offers USB, Toslink, and RCA inputs, each individually selectable via a front-panel button. It also has a more sophisticated analog section. And, it’s ready for all sample rates, from 16/44.1 to 24/192.

I looked at both spec sheets on the Schiit website and, quite frankly, I'm pretty ignorant and can't recognize which are the key differences.   The main difference I see with the Bifrost is that it's future-proof.
Where Modi is about bang for the buck, Bifrost is a complete platform—an upgradable platform that you can use for many, many years in the future. Maybe decades. Because Bifrost is modular, we can change out the USB input card and the DAC/Analog card. So, when technology changes, Bifrost will change with it. No other DAC at this price point offers true upgradability like Bifrost.

The case I would overlook, but the coax jack needs a bit of a fix. However if I'm not using the coax jack (hence I am not likely to damage it while it's sitting like that) I'd be able to ignore it.

That's mainly it. Bifrost is upgradeable/futureproof, and also likely sounds (very, very marginally) better, due to having more room for a better analog section, etc.

Whether you're able to hear the difference is another question entirely, and one we can't answer for you. I know personally that I can't, but YMMV.

An honest answer, not crowd sourced, very refreshing.

You try running it in windows 8 compatible mode by right clicking the setup and going to properties.
