I've had my Lyr 3 for awhile now and been through a number of tubes and find myself swapping them out every now and then. I think people prefer their own sense of sound and will find their own favorite tubes as they find the ones that best suit them. The Lyr 3 sounds great to me and I have been enjoying it the last few years!

I’m looking to either buy a Lyr+ or a used Lyr 3 to pair with my Hifiman HE1000 v2 and Bifrost 2 (currently running with an Asgard 3). Can someone recommend a tube that will tame the highs, have good low-end impact, and help provide a wide soundstage?

I always recommend a 50s foton as a great tube. I have tried a lot of tubes over the years and this is one of my favorites, and for the price you can't beat them.

Much easier to find than Melz and about 1/8 the price. Look for ribbed plate versions and be ready to resolder the pins.

The 50s foton are cheap. Right now you can get 4 for under 30.00 nos. I don't see how you can get melz for 1/8 that.

🤣🤣 Yeah but if it was not for me, Bill would still be trying to use 100 hour break in on those tubes.😉

(A) That would have been a good thing: “idleness is the enemy of the soul” [Benedict of Nursia].

What is the preferred store/vendor to buy these from?
