Get the best source you can. I'd vote for mimby plus ether Magni or Vali.
That would be a No CaptKirk, I'm interested also in what else they have coming out here to but I guess I'll take a Vacation, Crank some tunes on my big sansui and check back in a week or 2
I was about to buy the HD650's. What would you that sounds better than them, out of curiosity?I have a Mimby and Vali 2 with my HD650s and it sounds fantastic. Personally I wouldn't say the HD650s are the crispest, cleanest sounding headphones, but they do sound really really great!

Looks like Massdrop have got HD6XX coming soon, not better but probably cheaper (I have HD650 balanced from Jot and love it, {just thought I'd mention Schiit})I was about to buy the HD650's. What would you that sounds better than them, out of curiosity?

What that image has done is hide the fact that there is a DAC and Pre-Amplifier included in the box labeled "M2 Amplifier," otherwise it won't work.Go get them. Let them hear why obsolete is the future.
Today This was used to prove to me that class d is a much cleaner signal.
I was looking in the under $600 range. I don't have much to say on signature and I'm not in a location that allows me to listen to alternatives. I do have an original pair of AKG K240's that are fairly neutral and ATH-M50's that are nice, but not great. Building a pair of Statement II's for the Freya and Yggy.I'd jump in and say that it would really depend on your preferred sound signature, budget and if you'd like an open or closed headphone...
That said, bang for the buck, with proper amping and cable, you'd be hard pressed to find a better performing headphone for the money.
I haven't heard of Massdrop? I've only heard good things about he HD650.Looks like Massdrop have got HD6XX coming soon, not better but probably cheaper (I have HD650 balanced from Jot and love it, {just thought I'd mention Schiit})
I noticed that too and it's not a true representation of class d amplification. What that image has done is hide the fact that there is a DAC and Pre-Amplifier included in the box labeled "M2 Amplifier," otherwise it won't work.

Hd600, imo, is a more neutral signature. Also better for more genres. But he400s/i would probably be more fashionable these days.
