Oh gawd, here's where we are at:

IMG_4297.jpeg

Yeah that's a rainfall capture/solar house in Texas.

Quick update:

1. Valhalla 3 has two transformer ideas in play. It may happen. Probably not this summer.
2. Working on chapter for something that will happen this summer that changes everything (no not bought, relax, you'll see.)
3. New 5-channel amp coming soon, called Kraken.
4. New Saga 2 coming soon, least expensive Saga ever. Still relay ladder. Now with gain. Class A. No feedback. Headphone amp included.

Gonna be an insane year!
I know folks that live in the Kerrville - Fredericksburg area, beautiful country .

I'm already setting aside $$ for a DAC...
Might also have allow for a syn and kraken...

my maggies used to provide sound for my TV.

before that, I had 4 cerwin vegas ( their advertising used the !) for a stereo.
Friends have since given me 4 more. I'm thinking I should get 5 of them out of storage (I'm sure they will need re-foamed) for a home theater set up.

I may have found myself a book to write. It would have a chapter on zeroth things. It would have a chapter on the meaning of life. But these would not be the core messages of the book. More like... supporting reasoning.

The working title is "Something to believe in: humanity".

Thoughts on that? Is it possible that I have well-reasoned beliefs about a bright future for humanity, that these can be helpful to individuals and groups, and that it would be a good idea to write these beliefs down?

I have been searching for meaning for about two thirds of my life now. I generally don't believe things, I prefer to reserve judgement until I know for sure, I'm generally considered both skeptical and pessimistic. I know reason. I know logic.

But my childhood dream was to become one of the names mentioned in the physics books, on the level that everyone gets to learn something that I was the first to understand and explain. Sometimes I dream big. Some might say unreasonably big, some might say otherwise. One woman keeps saying that I should try to get a Nobel prize and I'm not sure if anyone knows if that is a joke or straight forward life advice.

And sometimes I dream about a bright future for all of humanity.

Might as well take a crack at the peace prize instead of physics? That's not going to come to fruition quick enough to fulfill her dream of going to the fancy dinner for the Nobel prize winners, though. Probably not within the lifetime of anyone alive yet.

But hey. World peace. Worth a shot, right?

And if it doesn't result in world peace, at least I wrote a book that might help someone at some point. Myself, quite possibly, when I've forgotten how and why to be a good person. Or some kid wondering about the meaning of life. Whether it is all futile or not. Like me.

There are people like me, right? No? Okay, just me then.

Might as well write it anyway.

Because, you know, world peace. And I believe it to be attainable, though it might take tens of generations yet.

What is your utopia? Is it possible, is it attainable? Why and how?

So in my looking for something to crank with the windows open to let the Duetta’s breathe whilst walking Biz in the yard… the Batchelor week of sound binging whilst awaiting Yggy continues apace…

I’m seriously amazed at how real/live this sounds:

Blue Rodeo:5 days in july

It’s amazingly recorded; doesn’t get you jumping you are dead.

And that was OUTSIDE…

Now on to BBQ pulled pork (my own) on hoagies - more batchelor meals!
PS… since you are in the area, check out Sisterdale vineyards… super obscure but close to that area

We loved that area in the “triangle” but it was not only getting insahn

so you should check out the Sisterdale vineyards, very close by. We loved that triangle area, but most of it simply didn’t have access to any kinda high-speed internet; heck, cell was even an issue; at least closer to the I10 corridor (Boerne, Kerrville, et al) that is not a problem. But we’re more “rural folk”… You will love the area I predict

(PS: the calipers are set on the OD of the speaker cables… LOL)

1. When you’re happy with it, everyone else will be too
2. There’s that obscure tease that we’ve all grown to know and love
3. You named that just for the obvious memes, didn’t you?
4. I’m getting Mini Kara vibes here.

Look for one that's made in Japan and not China.
The ones from Japan usually come from Jico and are part of the N75 series.

Try Gary over at thevoiceofmusic.com

Any advice on adjusting the vertical setting on the idler wheel?

And yikes "Pfanstiehl"?!!? It's going to take me a while to wrap my head around that system and figure out the replacement stylus for my Shure.

For me, personally in my life, that books already been written. Will read it the rest of my life.

Yeah, it kinda helps the Duetta’s put out same sound front and back, and the backs are aligned with the open windows… it’s like two systems in one… lol

Sisterdale is on the list. They seem legit, and worth a visit.

Also of note, Newsom Cellars is in the same area (Comfort) and the winemaker frequently mans their tasting room, so if you go by on a slow day, you may be able to spend a few hours talking wine.

Fredericksburg is also nearby, and Invention Cellars is doing some very good stuff (as is Pedernales and William Chris). Invention recently served up literally the best Viognier I've ever had in my entire life, state or country nonwithstanding.

With respect to Corpus Christi, Aerodrome Distilling is releasing their first mashed/distilled/aged in-house bourbons. These are all Texas-style; if you're looking for super-sweet, it's not worth bothering. But, in my opinion, these are world-class, a great expression of Texas bourbon without excessive barrel bitterness caused by insane heat during aging.

No place is perfect, but you should be able to find some things that make you happy where you are.

Roon RAAT uses TCP.

Small but consistent audible improvement from Netgear GS105 to Cisco WS-C2960C-8PC-L as the switches upstream from my Linn Klimax streamers. I was very skeptical, but I could not deny what I heard, and even more when my wife who did not know what we were trying out noticed the difference without prompting (she has a very good musical ear). Only hypothesis that makes any sense to me is that the cheap SMPS with the Netgear injects more noise in the wiring. Replacing Cat 6 between switch and Klimax with SFP optical (the Cisco switches and the streamers support that) makes almost no (if any) difference beyond replacing the switches.
Like all things, there are well implemented devices, and then, not so well implemented....... 10-15 years ago, I was a big fan of the dark blue metal case Netgear stuff, including Access points, and their managed switches. When I began managing the network for a 13 campus regional school district (Cisco), I questioned the cost of a Cisco 2600 48port POE switch, being over 5 times that of an equivalent Netgear model.....

I spent an afternoon with a Cisco engineer exploring the CLI interfaces of both Cisco and Netgear stuff. I was fairly adept with Netgear, not so much with Cisco at the time. I discovered some very interesting differences in the overall approach between the 2 products....

As I've said before, at OSI layer 2, an ethernet switch sits between the Physical Layer 1 (twisted pair Catx, or Fiber) and the Network Layer 3 (TCP/IP, UDP). Any modern switch maintains an ARP address table that maps the Layer 1 MAC address of each network interface on the network to a Layer 3 IP address. This allows a direct 1:1 communication between hosts on the network. A key difference between between "enterprise" switches (Cisco, HP Proliant, Juniper, Meraki.....) and consumer/prosumer grade is how this ARP address table is maintained.

What happens when a new host appears on the network? That host will send an ARP Broadcast (Adrress Resolution Protocol) on the network. Because the OSI model fully supports multiple connection methods, this broadcast sent to *all* hosts on the network. In the case of an enterprise grade switch, the ARP table in memory will simply receive an update after an IP address is either assigned via DHCP, or statically configured. This table exists persists in memory, until it is either cleared (Cisco: clear ip route, or clear ip route x.x.x.x), or the switch is rebooted. (oversimplifying things here, ignoring duplicate IP's, teamed Network adapter (multiple mac addy's), loopbacks, POE provisioning, port flapping, etc....) At the district, most switches have uptimes well over a year, with power outages being the most common cause...

Consumer switches do something *much* easier...... In response to *any* ARP Broadcast the *entire ARP table is discarded*! This results in every host having to re-negotiate with the switch, rebuilding the ARP table.... Depending on switch and number of ports this can be pretty disruptive. Network acting up??? Reboot your router (including it's cheap built in switch....)

I'm also a big fan of Ubiquiti, their gear, across the line, is very well made (although in the case of their managed stuff, it really helps to know what you are doing). Their Edgerouters are excellent, can be configured pretty much any way you want, and accept 24v POE. I personally have similar uptime results with them

Hey! Progress on the house..foundation cement work?
Lots more to go for sure!
