It appears Bill gets around.

**Using Google Image Search and posting is a bit of a buzzkill and ruins the fun, IMHO. :frowning2:

Carlos Kleiber conducts the Wiener Philarmonic at the Musikverein in 1974 - Beethoven’s 5th Symphony. Considered to be the best recording ever. This stream on Qobuz is the original digital master; there’s also a 96kHz version.

That is indeed one of my favorite classical recordings of anything ever. Kleiber and his orchestra were absolutely on point in that session. I have a Japanese SHM-CD release that also includes the 7th that sounds wonderful. It's too bad Kleiber was such an enigmatic elusive character.

Thou doth protest too much, methinks. :smirk:
Shouldn't you be focusing on finishing up your addition? 🤣

I mounted a Littlite directly to the rack shelf the turntable sits on. Works great and is pretty unobtrusive.

Yeah those are great (have one) but I don’t have a clamp-able shelf; I’m cabinet constrained now. Found a decent one that would fit (stand mount LED)

I use a similar light over my main turntable. I also like to be able to see the record clearly and use compressed air to remove any dust.

Point of clarification 🤓: The Wheat is a full-on wheat whiskey, not a Wheated Bourbon. No corn was used in the making of this whiskey. It is predominantly soft winter wheat with equal measures of rye and malted barley (about 13% of each I think). It is indeed softer than the bourbon and the rye but is also surprisingly complex. The BiB version of it is my personal favorite (most days) of the three BiBs. :)
It reminded me of a cross (imaginary) between buffalo trace style and bookers; if that makes any sense. I like it a lot; definitely hints of a smokier BT/Papi Van flavor going on… 100 proof, just right not too hot. Forces sipping. Winner

I had a room where rock wool (4") in the walls made an appreciable difference, and above the ceiling tiles.

Also made the room more hospitable in the winter and summer! :)

In this room, we just put a Berber-style rug with 1/4" (1/2"?) wool felt pad over the wall-to-wall somewhat plush carpeting (better half doesn't like this carpet so wanted to hide it :) - win for me!). I can hear the room ambience in recordings better. Maybe a thicker pad under your rug?
Well, it’s a thick handmade wool 8x10 over a very thick 1/2” pad. I have no slap echo problem in this room at all, so not needed (remember planars have virtually zero vertical dispersion other than the height of the ribbons (it’s why they work very well in finished basements with low ceilings)

Could be a typo… maybe 12 gauge.
Nope, two guage, the wire diameter is just under 8mm (caliper measured)… it’s also bi-wired, so in some sense maybe it’s zero guage…

Switch from Pink Floyd to some Schubert piano sonatas and, Bismarck says,

“Not so much”

Is the idler wheel traveling up and down smoothly when you change speeds?
There are plenty of aftermarket styli available for that cartridge.

Yep - all the way from the white peg at the top to the brass cylinder at the bottom, and the pitch control moves it too. Apparently you somehow adjust the idler wheel range up or down until the pitch can be fine tuned.

Any stylus in particular you recommend? Amazon has mystery brands starting at about CAD$40, but I don't see anything from any brand I recognize.

But for Dvoraks 9th (Chicago/Giuliani) hes nicely snuggled in. Maybe he knows this is the piece i heard way back i n 1977 in college on friends fiancée’s fathers amazing 15 IPS tape to OG Levinson class a gear and on to massive Klipsches. Literally started my high end journey. I was shown something that COULD be done, and the gauntlet was down.
