Since @Paladin79 is an avid chess player as well as a vacuum tube "collector", here is a suggestion on how to combine the two hobbies.

Nice! I could use GE’s and Fotons with some Philips ECG’s thrown in.🤪

This is turntable related, it should be obvious.😉IMG_9046.jpeg

What is it?

@tincanear asks: Would adding a TT isolation base be a more cost-effective sonic upgrade than a new TT/arm/cartridge?

Tough to answer. Assuming arm/cart are installed and adjusted to work at their best - maybe or maybe not. If the arm/cart are well off, then a better set with proper settings would almost certainly be better than an iso base.

Another issue is with the TT in a room with speakers that have low bass at volume the TT, arm, and dust cover will be excited - even if the iso base is perfect (hard to imagine that). I never used an iso base having the good luck to have adjacent rooms/closets with concrete or different flooring from that in the listening room. Another trick from the old days is mounting the table platform on a wall, which does help in some dimensions.

Even though I have no engineering training of any kind, I was able to TOTALLY ELIMINATE ALL all turntable-related resonances and vibration effects from my audio system and listening area.

I merely simplified the system by eliminating the turntable. (And its baggage train of finicky/delicate/time-sucking supporting stuff.). Working very well so far. Related audio nervosa and stress are below measurable levels. Disclaimer: this technique may or may not also work for other people.

Well I am running five turntables at different times as opposed to none? The bases certainly help my Pro-Ject table and a Hitachi but less on tables with better isolation and heavier plinths. That is factual, not theory.🤪

While my racks sit on tile on top of solid concrete, walking across the floor has no effect but if I happen to bump a rack the bases diminish any potential vibration and add mass to my racks. Simple stuff.

Here's the thing: no matter what we do, if you have an Yggy...you won't be left behind. Even if you don't choose to spend on an upgrade. You'll see what I mean shortly. Those who chose the only DAC in the world that has run for almost a decade and is still argued about as end-game (even with the original boards) are gonna be rewarded.

I always assumed that, but great to have confirmation.

Yggy is THE flagship. If Gungnir catches up, Yggy will leapfrog ahead.

Today is the best of times for audio stuff. But as the Simpsons remind us ... "yadda yadda yadda, SO FAR."

Wisconsin is great, I visit there about once a year for business reasons. They’re like an over-the-top American version of Finland, I feel.
Still haven’t managed to properly visit Chicago whilst there, but it’s definitely on my list during some visit. My boss also okayed a visit to our Houston facility the next time I’m over there.
I think it’s probably a chain store, but we visited a gigantic outdoors/hunting gear store somewhere between Illinois and Wisconsin the last time I was there. The store itself was huge and had enough guns to outfit a small army, but then it turns out it’s only a small part of a shopping mall, which housed an ice hockey rink among other things…

On to other things, last night a future head-fier was born. Hope to share this hobby with my son when he grows up.
Congratulations!

That’s clearly for gas powered turntables.
🤪 not diesel? I need to wait for the oil finish to dry then I will demonstrate. This is my last piece of honey locust wood so it deserves something like this. IMG_9047.jpeg
