Everyone’s missing the point. Apples line of TWS made more revenue in 2023 than Nvadia. There is a boatload of money to be made in Wireless in ears. By far the hottest audio tech, nothing comes close.
Good for Sennheiser
I believe Sennheiser will launch a new dynamic flagship eventually, but nothing can promise us that this will come soon.
Until then however, other German makers, Neumann, Austrian Audio or Grell audio, may take the lead for hot dynamics.
In retrospect the "Sennheiser's Big Reveal" phrasing on the front page seems ill advised, but in fairness to Sennheiser their post did say "...("CES") is nearly upon us, and we have a few technology-leaning announcements to make."
IIRC the last few iterations of Senn's wireless lineup are pretty well regared here (for instance last time I checked in Momentum TWS seemed to be one of the favorites on the big TWS thread) so at least it's of interest to some users.
I was also waiting for the premiere - who doesn't like the announcement of something new.
But in fact, from the full dynamic open headphones we have competitors for the HD800s, from those currently produced and on sale on the market, from those considered successful and good-sounding:
1.AUSTRIAN AUDIO THE COMPOSER (2022)
2.Focal Utopia 2022 (2022)
3.ZMF VÉRITÉ (2019)
4.Focal Clear (2017)
5.Sennheiser 800s (2016)
6.Audio Technica ATH-Adx5000 (2017)
Does this mean that the dynamic transducer has reached the limit of its capabilities?
The list is quite short (maybe I missed something) and planars will take over the entire market because there are so many of them?
Companies don't want to go in this direction anymore?
Thre were good reasons why I said to the former Akg core team....if Sennheiser doesn't do anything....then please do something now....and 18 months later the Composer in 2023 was there....and without any question, the Composer is a completely different caliber than an HD800S
(And there is still plenty of room for improvement with dynamic transducers, you just have to be ready and willing)
And the red ribbon is rather a symbol that Akg has not forgotten its audiophile fans.... a kind of gift to us for a very atractive price
The HE-1 could cost less. Lose the granite and the crazy motorized knobs no custom tubes, go solid state etc. New amp, same transducers at higher production runs would bring the cost down a lot.
With this thread in Head-fi.org, I really thought it was worth to spend a time watching the Youtube channel...
I Have spent 35 minutes watching in direct and I am still wondering why such announcement should concern such forum ? Nothing was concerning a Hi-Fi matter...
Geez tough crowd. I feel like reminding people that there are whole threads dedicated to TWS and bluetooth headphones on head-fi. Sorry to disappoint everyone but that is where the market is at these days - and I say that as someone struggling to find a good upgrade to a closed-back that isn't bluetooth and doesn't cost thousands. This is just the reality we live in - audiophile products are niche, and consumer electronics aren't.

I get all the disappointment and it is probably deserved given where Sennheiser came from and what they used to be but he still has a point stating that there are many threads and discussions here with regard to TWS and/or regular bluetooth headphones. So, even if head-fi is a "niche" community, there are still many discussions revolving around "non-audiophile" consumer audio products. For what it's worth, I'm part of this community and my main headphones right now are the B&W PX8, the Denon PerL Pro and the AirPods Pro 2.
Besides and in their defense, in recent years they still gave us something like the IE900 or the HD660 S2, both of which are not exactly "consumer audio products". So, it's not like they've given up entirely here That said, I would be interested in the rumoured HD660 S2/3 whatever closed back type of headphone myself.
