SASH Deux & Tres; impressive planars from Ukraine

Having both the SE and 45s, I don't think the 45s are obsolete. They just have a different presentation which is less aggressive or intrusive and more mellow compared to the SE model. The 45s do require a good amp. But they definitely allow you to enjoy the music no less than the new SE model.

@Alien HP do you happen to own the Hifiman Edition XS as well as the Tres SE? If so, how do they compare?

No, I don't have the Hifiman Edition XS.

Okay thanks. The Tres have opened my eyes (ears?) to what a really well-controlled planar can sound like, and I'm now thinking of maybe moving on from my Monolith M1570s. They have lots of presence and impact, but I'm coming to realize the sound is just a little bit "loose."

Your description of the Tres SE is pretty compelling, but I've also heard good things about the Edition XS in a similar price range.

Yes, white indeed. It's just a very dark picture with a lot of blue light. Not photoshopped though.

Could be placebo. It does take a while to change grilles. More thorough testing is required. Not everything we hear can be seen on a frequency response graph. But again...IF there is a difference it's small one. Best to go with the grilles that look better to you.

Precisely! Common frequency response "trick" that especially Hifiman is famous for.

Wow he copied susvara almost 1:1

True but many hifiman headphones have quite similar frequency response yet they all sound different from one another. Despite similarities in tuning Tres SE does not resemble Susvara that much. Tres is more upfront and energetic compared to quite relaxed Susvara. In that sense Tres Se sits somewhere between HE6 and Susvara but does not lean towards bright as much hifimans.

Sounds like tres is endgame heapdhone
For me this statement is absolutely true. The only thing better than Sash Tres is a new model of Sash Tres, so I'm waiting for the fourth version, enjoying the sound of the Tres SE.

I am following the thread and I will check Sash website front time to time for novelty but the Tres original version is so balanced and musical that I cannot figure out how the "improvements" of the 45ohm or the SE could really improve the pleasure of listening with the og... 🤔 Are we sure that a little bit of this and a little bit of that could not alter the qualities of the og? I cannot try the new one but, honestly I have some doubts I would change my mind... imho 🙂

if a 4th version is confirmed - any info available on it? thanks
At the moment, the release of the SE version has just begun; the fourth version will be available someday, but it will not be very soon, as far as I know.
