I think if SanDisk was going to release a new player this year it would have happened by now. The last few years it's been the end of August that they've had their releases.The only thing they did was announce new colors available for the Clip+ 

I do like easy to use controls, looks like I'm getting the Clip Zip.
Unless some knows of a better mp3 player for under $100?

I know of something 'close' to $100 Cowon's C2 I've owned a D2+ and the C2 is much better player SQ wise. I rate it higher then my S9 and the guy's at anythingbutipod measured it to sound the same as a J3. But anyway, it's up you to research and see if it would be for you. Pairs well with my Sony MDR-V6

Of course it does and even the stock FW updates can vary in character. I still don't care for Rockbox on my Fuze v1 but very much like it on my clip+ with dither engaged. The pitch bug is over stated is you're just using it to listen but of course it's nice that Rockbox is almost spot on.

Do you think Cowon C2 has a better sound quality than Sansa Fuze?
If yes, in what areas (detail, separation, sound stage, treble, bass) Cowon C2 is better than Sansa Fuze?

I just got mine today. Rockboxed it. Blown away. Its better than my Nano 4G. Clearer and wider soundstage.

The Clip players sound great, however the short battery life might frustrate you. I use usb battery packs to get around this. This is not ideal, however it does solve the problem. If only they had made the player around 20-30% thicker and given it 30 hours of battery life it would have been so much more convenient.

It would have made it less "clippable" if it was thicker and heavier....I like it just the way it is. I've never used up my 15-16 hours of battery life in a day.

The whole idea is not to have to charge it every day. Imo charging it once or twice a week is what seems like a good tradeoff between convenience and player size for a tiny player like the Clip+.. This occurs with around 30 hours of battery life. Making the player 20-30% thicker and slightly heavier wouldn't greatly impact on it ability to be clippable.

Charging every day is painful, especially when you're like me and can't stand watching a battery drop below half. Then, if you forget to charge it every day you run risk of the player dying the next. Something with about 55 hours battery life works well. Once a week is all you need.

A few players that have such excellent battery time come to mind.

55 hour battery life would be nice, but it isn't feasible in a player the size of the Clip+. Around 30 hours would be good for such a small player. For a larger player, around 60 hours of battery life would be nice.

Something like 25 - 30 would of been nice for the Clip+. However when you consider it's size, Clip+ doesn't do to bad a job really.

Just becomes a pain after a while at around 15.

I really don't see what is so difficult about charging these things....lol. It doesn't take long, especially when it is not all the way drained. When I was using the Clip variants as my primary players, it was a no-brainer to plug in each morning while I had my morning coffee/breakfast/Internet routine.....invariably the player would be ready before I was done. Beats the heck out of carrying around an extra battery pack, that's for sure!

I guess something's got to give, given the audio quality this little device has.
 
And I'm not sure if they could've just made it the size of the Fiio 17. Definitely larger, but then you'd get ~60 hrs of battery life.
 
But then it would become expensive, and start competing with the iPods.
 
To be honest, I feel Sandisk didn't really expect their players would catch on this well. They seem to be designed to be cheap, light and ultra-portable, steering clear of the upper market segment.

Since the Cowon C2's been mentionned, my two cents : I bought it around 10 months ago over the Clip Plus for its battery life and apparent solidity.
While its battery life's pretty much met my expectations, its sturdiness has not : the metal plate's disloged from the plastic shell, I can't push the power button anymore.
The thing is dead !
I think I'll be replacing it with a Clip Plus and doubt I'll miss it. I didn't get much use out of the BBE stuff, the UI is horrible and SQ nothing to write home about. 
 
Edit : while the C2 battery life was indeed a wonderful thing, it did take an awfully long time to fully charge up. Definitely not a "morning coffee" affair.
