How is nexus WM8994 dac different from sgs1 WM8994 dac?

Not sure how you think the Galaxy Nexus has a Wolfson WM8994.

The Galaxy Nexus does not have a WM8994, in fact it doesn't even have a Wolfson.  It's dac is made by Texas Instruments.

Anybody figured out the headphone amp output impedance on the Galaxy Nexus? That seems far  more important than the DAC particularly for balanced armature drivers.

So I just got my Nexus, but if I plug in my JH5s with the volume turned all the way on, there is a high pitched whine with static that occasionally switches over to a 60 Hz hum. Anyone else have similar problems? I might try to bring my JH5s to the verizon store and try them on the demo Nexus to see if it has similar issues.

BTW, I'm using the Verizon LTE nexus. Also, the noise isn't a problem on the standard included earbuds, only the JH5s, which makes me think either the sensitivity is an issue, or it's a connector issue.

Hello,

I am in communication with SuperCurio about trying to enable USB DAC support on the Galaxy Nexus.  I read somewhere that there are 2 commands that need to be input to bypass internal for digital out.  Does anyone know where this information is so we can test it?

Thank you!

The USB Audio Driver for ALSA "usb audio.o" is likely missing in the current stock kernel of Android 4.0.

"Usb audio.o" is present in the modded kernel of the Nook tablet which allows FiiO USB DAC & Amp E7 & Nook to interoperate:

"Usb audio.o" is likely not present in the 4.0 kernel and the FiiO E7 doesn’t interwork with Galaxy Nexus:
https://bitbucket.org/paulobrien/android_kernel_galaxynexus/src/bc4f9b72a51d/sound/usb

“USB Audio Support
USB audio systems such as speakers normally comply with the USB audio class specification. If your audio device does not comply with the specification, it will not work with Linux at this time.
You need to turn on the Sound card support kernel option, which is in the Sound section. You will then be able to turn on the USB Audio support option in the normal USB section.
If you elected to use modules, you need to load the module called audio.o.”
http://www.linux-usb.org/USB-guide/x319.html

If the USB Audio Driver for ALSA (Advanced Linux Sound Architecture) is really missing in the current stock kernel of Android 4.0, SuperCurio or another Android modder/kernel builder could check and include the missing Linux driver in the Galaxy Nexus kernel.

[20:18] <GettCouped> What DAC are you using?
[20:18] <supercurio> its a terratec usb sound card
[20:18] <supercurio> aureon dual ****
[20:18] <GettCouped> does it have a battery or external power?
[20:18] <supercurio> it needs power but the controller works here
[20:19] <supercurio> I tested with another external destkop dac

The Nexus has a certain amount of white noise between tracks but isn't audible when music is playing.  The reason being is the head phone amp is cranked and the audio control is digital at the dac.  Supercurio has said he will be bringing voodoo sound to the Nexus and basically it will crank the digital audio and allow us to control the head phone amp.  From his comments the nexus goes completely black then.

If you are hearing hum even when music is playing there is a definate issue.  My sensitive Shure 535s work perfectly.  But then I don't have an LTE version either.

Finally an android phone that sounds great.    It does really sound better than the iPhone on power amp app, and the possible support for line-out thru headphone amps.  Sounds really good straight out of my CK100pro, if there is something call synergy this is it.  Cheers.

What did you mean by line-out thru headphone amps?  You mean you can get line-out level signal from Galaxy Nexus into a headphone amp?  How?  And is it possible in Galaxy S II LTE too??
