Rockbox Xduoo X3

I don't know if there is a limit to the number of files that can be read into the database, if that is what you are asking...if there is a limit , you should still be able to access everything through folder view.

Not sure what I did, but my X3 will only boot into Rockbox and not Stock anymore. Not that I am complaining, I just don't know what I did. I used to be able to boot both.

Others have reported the same. I have not actually tried to see if I can boot stock as I only want Rockbox mode anyway.

Don't take this as an obvious question, but is the lock switch in the lock position? I only ask because that will cause what you're describing.

Ok just last one question:) I understand that second SD is supported but needs to be formatted to FAT32? are there any limit of memory?

Yes, both SD cards need to be FAT32. I haven't heard of any problems with big cards, though I'm not sure if anyone's tried a 400GB one.

Not just FAT32, but specifically FAT32 with 4k block size.

And I'm not sure about 400GB cards, but I have 2x256GB cards and they work peachy.

When I used to put it in the Locked Position, then turned it on, it would go into Stock mode. Now when I do it, nothing happens. I just hear the "Click" on, but it never boots to stock.

There's no limit on the total number of files, but there *is* a limit on files per directory.

It's also recommended to set the "limits" in the settings menu. This is described in more detail here: http://download.rockbox.org/daily/manual/rockbox-sansaclipplus/rockbox-buildch8.html#x10-1430008.5.2

I think this has more to do with optimization of memory or database tables or some geeky gibberish than a flat out hard coded limit though.

BTW, I'm 98.7% sure the "Max Entries in File Browser" setting is much higher than 10k maximum now. I have about 25k files on my X3, and I remember setting the "Max Entries in File Browser" appropriately.

I'm going by memory here, but I remember cases of the bootloader becoming corrupt (it somewhere buried in this thread). If memory serves me correctly, the simple solution was to just reinstall Rockbox using the instructions (I don't remember which set of instructions though - "manual", "full", etc). But I do remember people saying "that fixed it thanks".

Hopefully that gets you in the right direction.

Thanks, I'll try this (maybe not tonight), but I will report back when I get a chance.

I saw that the Xduoo X3 can have Rockbox installed, so instead of having it on the othe X3 thread I decided to start it here.

Here are the instructions to install Rockbox:

http://xvtx.ru/rockbox/manual.htm

Edit: When renaming update-to-rockbox-xx.zip, first make sure that you are able to view hidden files for your OS(Mac: http://ianlunn.co.uk/articles/quickly-showhide-hidden-files-mac-os-x-mavericks/ and PC: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/show-hidden-files#show-hidden-files=windows-7 ) then rename it to update, it would then be update.zip

Here are the Rockbox files that are needed:

http://xvtx.ru/rockbox/download.htm

Themes - how to change or add them:

To change themes select Settings > Theme Settings > Browse Theme Files. Find one you want to try and press Play/Pause.

To add additional themes, go to http://themes.rockbox.org/index.php?target=sansaclip , select what you want and download it. Unzip it and add the themename.cfg to the themes subfolder within .rockbox on your mSD card. It should now appear among the additional themes you can select.

Gapless Playback - Just turn off crossfade and the playback will be gapless.

Rockbox'd X3 not recognized by PC
- Make sure to have the button lock switch set to the locked\on position, before powering on your X3 and connecting it to your computer.

Second card slot not reading sd card - The second card must be formatted to FAT32 and have the .rockbox folder in the root directory. Windows users can use these programs to format their SD card to FAT32, go here: http://www.ridgecrop.demon.co.uk/index.htm?fat32format.htm

Hey there, I'm REALLY new to the whole 'Rockbox' thing...I've been researching it a bit here, I found the 'utility', which I was looking at, but the X3 was not in the list? I'm assuming it's software like an Itunes? Where you can organize and sync back to your device to keep it updated with your collection? Does that utllity work if you've 'rockboxed' the X3? Also, i was looking at the install instructions on their page, and it mentioned compatibility with Windows XP or 7? Is it not 10 compatible?

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks much,

Andrew

Hey Andrew,
The Rockbox utility is only used for installing Rockbox on compatible players (and it runs Windows 10). The XDuoo X3 is technically not "compatible," so it's not on the list. You would install Rockbox by following the instructions on Vortex's page, linked in the first post.

You do not need any sort of iTunes-like software to manage your music with a Rockbox player. You just drag & drop your music folders onto the player, which basically operated as removable storage that plays your music. I use Foobar2000 to create and save playlists, edit tags, and so on.

I've been using Rockbox on various players for a decade now, and I love it. It's a very powerful firmware with a ton of options.
