Review: Yulong D100 DAC/amp - reference quality with a reasonable price
Oct 10, 2011 at 9:36 AM Post #706 of 1,182
I sent my D100 to a guy who knows quite a bit about electronics and fixed my D100. However I didn't have any warranty since I bought it used. I don't think warranty when the company is in China is that big an issue since shipping there would be expensive and it would take a long time to get it back.

rawrster, did he tell you what exactly was wrong with it?

dear rawster, if you could ask that friend of yours about the damaged/broken part...would be interesting if there was any weak spot.

i am quite sure that if i ever owned a D100, i'd have drilled venting holes just on the sides and exactly above the heatsinks, allowing normal convective flow of heat. just plain paranoia.

Standard digital signals are accepted by a Cirrus Logic CS8416, and USB input is handled by a Texas Instruments TAS1020B. From there the signal is sent in I2S form to the Analog Devices AD1896 asynchronous sample rate converter, where it is processed to a 110kHz sample rate using a high precision system clock, and word lengths are padded to 24-bit. That signal then goes to an AD1955 where the actual digital to analog conversion happens. I/V conversion, filtering, and buffering are then handled by the combo of AD4075 and OPA275.

If that's really what the repair guy said...

I just bought one. From "davelgl" on ebay.  315 GBP (or 364 EUR) incl. shipment. I can't say how much i am looking forward to start listening to it. :)

UPDATE:

Today i received the unit. Everything was as expected, it was already with exchanged fuse (230V) and another power cord was included, fitting european mainland standard power sockets.

The manual seemed to be an updated, better one than that mentioned in the review.

I scanned it and look for yourself.

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. Actually this is my first post on head-fi.

First of all, thank you very much for this detailed review project86. I just finished reading all 48 pages of this thread and learned a lot.

I have one question though. In all these pages, there is no mention of audio-gd nfb-10 wm/se dac/amp. From what I've seen, nfb-10se is for $499 or something. And it is a dac/amp combo. So why there isn't a single post comparing d100 and nfb-10se. Or, am I missing something here? Because it's highly probable that I might be mistaken being extremely new to this stuff.

If someone can compare these two products in brief, it'll be appreciated.

Thanks,
Finrod.

Just wanted to point out that the Yulong D100 is on sale for a great price right now:

At just over $400 shipped, it is almost $50 less than any other seller on eBay. This is the seller I've used for all my Yulong gear and he is great to deal with. He is somehow connected with the actual Yulong company, since he was able to get me in contact with the designer when I did my review.

When I first picked up the D100 it was going for $480 shipped. So it is currently $75 less than that.

I'm considering the D100 for my Sennheiser HD650s. Does anyone know how this sounds with an HD650? I currently have an Audio-gd NFB12 (~$250) but it seems my HD650s sound a little to dark and muddy, so I'm hoping an upgraded DAC/Amp would help.

I like the HD650 straight from the D100, but some people didn't care for that combo as much.

Have you considered keeping the NFB-12 as a DAC only, and adding a dedicated amp to the chain? That might be a better way to go. I haven't heard the NFB-12 so I'm just speculating.

As long as the NFB-12's DAC itself isn't filtered to be dark, and is sufficiently detailed, that may be a good idea. Actually I don't think it could possibly be the DAC that's dark since the SRH940 sounds really detailed, so the DAC is fine. So that's a good point, I'll probably look into just full amps.

Not quite the HD650 but I did have the HD600 with the D100. I liked the pair but when I got my PPAv2 amp I stopped using the amp of the D100. imo the amp is pretty good considering the price of things but you can get better amps if you are willing to spend a bit more money but I can't complain much about the D100 as a all in one unit.

Also $400 is a good price for these :)
