REVIEW: Vivo Xplay 3S + XE800 Mobile audio perfection
Dec 12, 2014 at 11:24 AM Post #391 of 683
In addition to the first post in this thread these posts made me believe that they should use the same driver but with different tuning (naturally due to different housing).

Unfortunately I've never heard any of the GR07 siblings myself but I do enjoy the XE800 a lot.

Just received my XEsound like legendary sound of gr07800 today and did a direct comparison with my GR07 Classic Edition with the same exact tips and I can swear that my XE800 sounds nothing like my GR07CE. It's definitely more mid forward and less sub bass and low mids than my GR07CE. Now I'm wondering why many claim that the XE800 is actually a GR07 or GR07BE with different housing. Oh btw, my XE800 is an original with the rotatable nozzle. Anybody find that the XE800 sounds more like a GR06???

Yes and this I was long expected.......see,vsonic spent years and hrs of research and manpower creating and developing the proprietary GR07's B-C diaphragm and they succeeded in making it as their flagship......I dont agree if it has the shell of vsd1 and swilveling nozzle of gr07(& vsd1) will sound like legendary sound of gr07s......costing the same price as CE......yeah but in white and standard tips.(not that I know it came with atleast a drawstring pouch like soundmagic's and decent bundle of silicon tips / pair of foamies).......

The XE800 definitely is more mid forward than the GR07CE and lesser lower mids and sub bass. This leads me to think that it's more similar to the mid centric GR06. Can anyone confirm this?

It's not similar to the GR06, the XE800 is on another level.

Peter 123, can you confirm that it's not GR06? Many said that the XE800 is actually a GR07 or GR07BE in Vivo housing but I can confirm that it sure don't sound like the GR07. If the XE800 truly sounds like the GR07 then I must have gotten a pair that's tuned very differently. I'll check with Wokei soon on his set and report back. I sure hope I'm not getting a new XE800 that sounds more like a GR06. The reason I bought the XE800 is because I like the sound of the GR07 and thought it'd be a good bargain to get a XE800 that many said is a GR07BE in a Vivo housing with mic. The problem is that I can't use my GR07 on the road because it doesn't have a mic.

Yes, to my ears there's no way this is a variation of the GR06.

There is a peak around the 5khz mark but it's less pronounced and nowhere near as bad as in the case of my GR07 and the ringing at 6khz. In general the XE800 is better tunned at everything except the bass which is too much for my preferences. I like neutral sigs and the GR07 already produces a few db more bass over neutral and the XE800 is noticeably bassier.

My findings is the exact opposite of yours. I find the sub bass of the XE800 to be lesser than the GR07CE but I have to agree with you on the 5kHz peak on the XE800. Could it be that there are several tuning for the XE800 in different batches?

So you have the GR06 for a side by side comparison and not from memory right

I answered you from memory but went and digged out the GR06 and I still stand by my statemen, these are not the same.

Play your XE800 for 20 hours then compare... GR06 is not even close IMHO

I don't have a GR06, but I definitely agree that the XE800 is more mid-forward than my GR07CE. They still sound very similar (out of all the earphones I have) and share the same general sound signature.

Thanks for the confirmation. If my XE800 is tuned to sound like all the other XE800s and there's no different tuning on different batches then I can confirm that it is definitely not a GR07. They don't sound the same at all. Just to caution those who think that they're actually buying a GR07 at a lesser price.....it is definitely not a GR07. I'm not saying that the XE800 sound bad...not at all....they sound pretty neutral with a tinge of mid-forwardness to me and it definitely performs way above it's asking price....but it's just not what many claim it to be.....a GR07. To be honest, I'm not a firm believer of burn-in but never the less, I'll burn-in for around 50 hours and report back.

Most people were saying they were a retuned gr07, basically they share the same driver as the gr07 just their tuning gave it a different sound sig like you describe.

Hisoundfi compared the XE800 with his gr07 be and described them as having a tuning similar to the vsd1.

Yes, I agree with you Netforce the XE800 sounds more like a retuned Vsonic IEM. It sure doesn't sound anything like the VSD1 either, it actually sound more neutral than the VSD1.
