Review: Violectric V800 DAC

Sling5s...check out some of the recent posts above...Fried from Violectric stated "Concerning USB 24/192 we are working on a solution and want to be ready for the Hi-End exhibition in May in Munich."...he also talks about current owners perhaps having the opportunity to send in their current V800 for an upgrade.
Surprising, though if this is the unit being advertised on a 3rd party site already??? Interesting.

Sling..I live in the USA...and I found that when I priced the V200 and V800 out around the web that buying directly from Violectric offered me considerable savings, on the units and shipping. Great products!

I should have considered that but my v200 and v800 were from aphroditecu29.  Robert did give me a discount though.

TOS-link between Mac and V800 is always used here. :)

My V800 seems to go to mute when I switch to optical.  USB and Coaxial seems to work fine.  Any ideas?

Not sure if this helps, as mine is a Mac Mini but...Is your optical cable showing light? If not, does your Mac have 'digital out' selected under Settings - Sound, and shows 'optical digital-out port' or similar?

LOL.
It's been so long since I've used the optical out of the iMac that I thought it had a separate optical out.  I guess the headphone jack and optical is one and the same.

thanks for the help.

i'm a little confused, i use the v800 (sn v800544) and v200 (sn v200554) together

1. which labeling is correct for the groundlift jumper, in the v800, the one on the pcb inside the v800 or the one as pictured in the v800 manual

the labeling on the v200 pcb and v200 manual is the same as on the v800 pcb, so my guess is that the labeling pictured in the v800 manual is wrong, mirrored?

2. for groundlift jumper on both device's manuals (v800, v200) gnd is stated as ex works, but on both i found it was set on lift by default, when i first opened the devices, how comes?

3. on the v800, the balanced output level for 0dBFs is set to +15dBu, all switches lowered, for balanced analog xlr outputs, but which actually translates to +6dBu ex works, all switches lowered, for unbalanced analog rca (and unbalanced xlr) outputs?

so if i want +15dBu gain on rca unbalanced analog outputs i need to only rise the +24dBu switches inside the v800?

well by looking at page 7 of both v200 and v800 manuals i'm confused even more,  by the position of the jumper in respect to the 10k resistor and 100n capacitor on the pcb

EDIT: i took it apart, from the back of the pcb the truth emerged

the lable on  the pcb is correct,
