Hmm, curious... perhaps I'm a bit more sensitive to higher frequencies than I originally thought?

Thanks for the update! As for the setting the volume between 3~6, I'd wager that the HD 215 is sensitive enough where those levels start to exceed comfort.

Are you looking for something to be used for critical listening at home, or a pair of closed cans for portability's sake? If it's the latter - and I'd hate to mention it - but I do like the Amperior quite a bit. I AB'd an HD 25-II at the most recent LA Meet against Jude's Amperior. Though some may say that the difference is slight, I could hear a distinct advantage in the Amperior - particularly in terms of speed and detail. I know there's quite a price difference between those two, but for me (personally) it would be worth it.
In fact, if anyone from Sennheiser is reading this, I wouldn't mind reviewing the Amperior.
As for the HD 558, I really can't say as I haven't heard them. Nor do I have a whole lot of experience with Grados.
@warren: about sibilance, there's no real problem here, at least for me. I did not do any comparison on that aspect; in my opinion, hd215 is acceptable in that aspect. No obvious sharp/biting sound. I have a budget in-ear phone which sibilance is obviously very bad... with sharp/biting sound most of the time when there's 'S' or 'shh' sound. Have tried it with E11, but there's no obvious improvement.

An update about hd215 + fiio e11: now I found that High Power & High Gain mode at an average volume of 2.5 sounds excellent. I have tried High Power & Low Gain at volume around 3, but found it too loud. Note: I've read somewhere in this forum about setting the e11's volume between 3 to 6 for optimum sound (by adjusting the gain high or low). But found it a bit less practical with hd215.
Thanks for the update! As for the setting the volume between 3~6, I'd wager that the HD 215 is sensitive enough where those levels start to exceed comfort.

As I currently have koss portapro for casual listening and hd215 for monitor/accuracy-type listening, can anyone suggest a worthy addition/upgrade? currently looking at Sennheiser HD25-II-C (coiled cable, closed type), read many good review about it - is it really good? Amperior is way out of reach at the moment. How about 558? Also, Grado's range - but reviews less favour its comfort aspect.
