[Review] Superlux HD681 EVO

Still use mine everyday. Maybe less than what I used to but it's because of time constraints. Had chance using evo with my friend turntable and amp. Pretty sweet combination. My only open can right now, no immediate plan to upgrade. My future HP might be closed one for long travel purposes.

Man What, my Evos have also died. :frowning2:

It seems to be easy to fix, I just have to change the male connector to a female connector that I already have.

Would that be a reassignment?

  Same problem?

Almost, mines rubber connector is fine, the problem is the cable inside that is broken.

I ended using another male connector, the female connector was too big and I couldn't fit it in the hole.

It is not 100% fixed, the cable isn't tied to anything inside (it is hanging on the soldering) I tried to used some tie wraps but they were too big and I could not managed to close it again, so I have to wait until I find smaller tie wraps.

I just finished fixing my Evos!

God! I realized how much I love them! I mean, I couldn't stop thinking about them while I was trying to find the freaking tiny tie wrap.

So, pictures! Sorry for bad quality:

This forum last year introduced me to the superlux hd 681 and xiaomi pistons 2.0, both of which I have taken immense eargasmic pleasure in owning since then.

In the past few months however the superlux evo started showing issues with the left can (where the detachable wire connects), it would be ok if i adjusted the upper part of the female audio connector (where the detachable cable goes) and eventually it took more...let's say creative...twists and turns of that connector to hear stuff from the left can until last week it all eventually stopped. No music from the left year. I opened it up and tried adjusting the cable and looked for any loose soldering but to no avail, right can worked still fine though, without an issue. I think the problem is with the female connector therefore removed it (not the whole way). I am looking for a suitable female connector replacement.

tl;dr can someone direct me towards a suitable replacement for the female audio connector for the superlux hd 681 evo? I searched the term on amazon and the results are overwhelming. Also some indication of how I would go about replacing it?

Also the company that I bought it from ebay (Sonic sense pro) is not replying to any of my emails and they seem to be not active on ebay anymore. They have 0 products listed on their page. I had an extended warranty of 2 yrs but now I can't use it.

Here's a picture of the aforementioned left can as it is now. As you can see the blue wire connected to the left can is fraying.

And here's a picture of the kind audio connector that I'm looking for just in case.

I really liked the superlux and would ideally like to use it again instead of searching for a replacement so any help is much appreciated.

You better put a new cable with male conector, like Chavez and me did. Putting a female conector into that hole is a pain in the ass, there's no space inside that hole.

By the way, yesterday I went to a local store where I found a male 3.5 mm jack for soldering, like this one:

It is so cheap, I spent 150 BsF and 100 BsF for 1 meter of cable. While in pages like Ebay and Aliexpress those connectors costs 1$, that equals 650 BsF. xD

How is the cable attached inside? If I were you, I would kill him, there's no boot at the beginning. I would roll black tape around the cable until it gets real thick and then drag that roll inside the hole.
