Review: Questyle Audio QP1R - With Multiple Headphone and IEM Pairings

Fantastic review. Great job! I first became interested in the QP1R early summer 2015. Reading the first installment of this review helped me get off the fence and take the plunge. I can honestly say I love this DAP and I have never looked back. Hands down the best £750 I have ever spent. What's also great about this review it keeps on updating. I particularly enjoy the headphone pairings. If there's an headphone you are interested in chances are it's covered on here. Personally I would like to hear some more examples of amp synergy in future updates now that we have a DAC update in the firmware. Once again, great job

  Hi All

Just a quick word of warning to anyone buying Questyle products in the UK.

I ordered a case for my QP1R from www.Audiosanctuary.Co.uk and heard nothing for a week. Emailed them, nothing. I eventually range to find the item had not been sent out as it wasn't in stock. When I said this wasn't stated on their site, I was told "It didn't say it was either" Really!

Anyway, I've come into some money recently and am going to upgrade my Fidue A83 IEM's. Something like Shure SE846 and also a nice set of closed headphones for up to 1K. Guess who won't be getting my custom.

Regards

Darren

Hi Darren, I wouldn't let this put you off the product mate. The product is fantastic. Why not buy it from Amazon? You can even send it back if you find it's not for you!

Oh... annoyed again ... came home from work yesterday and turned off QP1R ... power read 86% ...

Went to work this morning and the player's battery was dead and would not power on ... annoyed more so because there was a crazy religious person on the train ... telling us all about the end of the world ... no where to run on an express train ... I had to listen

Hey Darren, cheers for the heads up on Audio Sanctuary! I bought my QP1R case (Dignis) off ebay from underdogkorea, and had no problems. The case fits and looks great. You can see the brown one here: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Dignis-Questyle-QP1R-DAP-Case-Limited-Edition-leather-Case-Brown-/291620564899?hash=item43e5f0afa3:g:1aoAAOSw5ZBWJaRx.

Also, if you were still considering the SE846s and are fine with second hand, I'm considering selling mine. If you're interested then drop me a pm :)

Thanks for the heads up. I think I've found someone who can take the VAT off of a Questyle case, just waiting for the PayPal invoice.

Can you PM me some details on your SE846's.

If it helps, I have the 846s which I used while saving for a cord for my Angies, And I think you'll like the choice.
But, I was wondering about what may be a typo in your signature, Questlye.  Was that a statement based on the problems you've had in the past with this unit?  Or just a small error?

Thanks, appreciate the kind words.  I agree, it would be great to read some amp synergy impressions!  As for personally updating the review with amp synergy impressions, I could add impressons in the future if I either receive requests (especially before CanJam-type events that will have the requested DAC/Amp at the event), or if someone lends what they'd like impressioned/reviewed to me.  I like the QP1R's USB DAC feature, but I pretty much use the QP1R as its own DAC/Amp unless I'm burning in a burn of earphones at the same time (around 15) - then I'll use an amp with the QP1R for extra power.

I'll be adding a few earphones and headphones in the near future - some that are really good, even for their prices!

Welcome, and enjoy your QP1R!

Yesterday I first time experienced a shut down before 4% battery on my second unit (as the first got many battery issues, inaccuracy, shut downs).
I was listening first time with EQ on this unit. Thought maybe this issues have something to do with the EQ..
As Questyle told on this thread that they're working on an solution on the battery stuff, I'm hoping that in the near future this problems are gone for good

Amazing synergy.

Thanks for posting this!  I've had to dig through some drawers to find mine (had completely forgotten about them) bit it was worth digging them out.  They sound wonderful.

I also found a set of Sennheiser px100 that I had forgotten about that sound pretty good.  I wonder what else is in that drawer?

The Questyle QP1R is just a rock solid unit, that absolutely my Focal Utopia sound fantastic. I spent the day, enjoying the weather as I drove about the town. I listened from such groups as Green Jello to Tomita to Zappa, and just was in audio nirvana. It was just fantastic, to be in audio bliss as I drove in my mobile man cave, in a a visual stunning environment. The only thing better thandriving in sub tropical paradise, would to see the fall colours, in Tennessee or Ohio. I have new found respect for the detailed, resolving, holographic sound of the Utopia. Likewise the bass is fantastic with such tight control, that the satisfying impact of the bass never intrudes upon the sweet, sweet, detailed, mids. Even classical scores by Mozart and Beethoven sounds spot on perfect, with all the elements of the music blending together, to sound bloody intoxicating.
