I just thought it would be interesting to throw EX1000 into the mix. Also they are older than all the other iems in the comparison, so more people probably have heard them (I haven't) and can use them as a point of reference. And aren't they priced in the same ballpark as ASG2?
I'll compare the EX1000 to the K3003, since they're the closest overall in sound signature.
Song used: The Party - Regina Spektor (I'm in a rush to head to the post office, and this song is a good test for a space, realism, and a bunch of other audiophile words).
The K3003 is obviously better. Detailing is better, the treble is more natural and refined. The EX1000 loses composure when the song gets busy with trumpets and cymbals, and when Regina starts hitting higher notes. Soundstage dimensions are similar, but the EX1000 is tuned in a way that can sound more open. On the flip side, it sounds more hollow than the K3003. Vocals are sweeter/richer on the K3003.
My criteria for tier separation (top tier vs lower tier) is how refined the sound is. Think of a pair of artisan leather dress shoes, painstakingly crafted to give off the sense of ultimate luxury and pride to the owner. That is the K3003. The EX1000 is a good pair of leather dress shoes, perhaps among the best from your local Macy's or similar department store.
A friend asked me about the bass of the EX1000 compared to the K3003, and the latter is again more superior. It sounds perfectly integrated with the sound, while letting the advantages of each driver type shine through.
God-damn. I think the K3003 might be the most wholesome phone I've heard. I was planning on buying a camera replacement/upgrade, but the K3003 is tempting me otherwise.
I am one of the few who actually own K3003 and S-EM6.
I am the one who do not admire K3003 over S-EM6. They are just so much different from each other and both are very good in different ways.
Also read other threads but I find the attitude towards S-EM6 shown by the OP is too extremeradical.
Just to remind that we all have different senses towards sound.
May be ASG-2 is an interesting piece, but I would rather go out and try myself because it seems we have surprisingly different preferences.
Imagine Earsonics too is surprised how much anyone can dislike their sound.
Preference is one thing. Technical performance is another. The EM6 makes the ASG-2 and Noble 6 sound
bright in comparison. The EM6 is bloated and muddy in the lower mids and upper bass, with poor treble. I will not take back that I've heard iems below half the EM6's price that are better. Much better.
