Congrats! It's a very minimal player in terms of usage, but far from minimal in terms of sound quality. The internal amp is so powerful too. I hope you'll like it. It's a great complement to anyone's collection IMO. None boots and plays faster than P1, very simple to use.

Have you tried with firmware 1.0.9?
I have tried 1.0.9 and I like it. Not because it resolves my sound issue, it doesn't. I like it because it seems to navigate better between folders with my existing music library. There are pros and cons. I will continue using it until there is a new release.

I'm wondering how many of you are using an amplifier with your P1. I just hooked up my P1 to my NX1A and the improvement to an expensive earbud that I almost wrote off was significant. The interesting thing is that the earbud gets driven fine by the P1 alone, as it's not a high impedance earbud, but the amp just made it sound like I was hoping it would.

I am also using amplification, although the P1 does have plenty of power, when paired with my matching A1 it really scales well.

I've tried a few amps with mine and felt the P1 sounded better with only one of them. Even then the slight improvement wasn't enough to deal with a stack. Plus, only one of the amps had more power than the P1.

So the P1 really doesn't need one. However, the next amp I try might have analog EQ controls and a bit more power; both of which (I hope) will make it worthwhile.

Due to the powerful internal amplifier in this player, I only use less than 1/4 the volume knob for listening to IEM. Adding the iFi EarBuddy adapter to the output helps allow me to increase the volume to almost 1/2 the volume. It helps reduce background noise, making it cleaner, and black/darker IMO. It doesn't change any sound character though, just perhaps I feel the resolution increase by a bit due to the cleaner presentation. I think this device is quite useful for more sensitive IEMs, as it reduce/removes also any hisses. As always YMMV.

Where to buy iFi?

I wonder how a discrete op-amp would do inside the P1...

It is a tight fit in the DIP socket for even a standard opamp. I don't think a discrete would fit.

Damn...guess I'll stick with the MUSES02 or roll around!
