I know that, I use AirVPN myself but not here as I just have the one account and that's the way it's staying - it would take just one slip up and you're looking at a ban, just not worth the risk

I wouldn't use one here either, but this whole nonsense with the rule, and the poor communication around it, is more than slightly infuriating.

If only there was a Very Practical Network technology that could assist...
What’s the point of jumping through so many hoops and keeping your sock puppets straight just to post on this site? I like the folks here but if it gets too complicated to post I’ll just go somewhere else.

You could try and post something useful and relevant in the thread, rather than a "rubbish" post. That wouldn't fall foul of any posting guidelines as far as I can tell. Of course the limitation is that you can't help out on threads where you really have nothing of value to contribute.
If they stopped this ridiculous double post rubbish he wouldn't of had to help me out in the first place.
Thats what a good person does helps out his fellow man or woman it use to be common once.

Our AI overlords have looked into the situation and noticed a spike in activity and controversial arguments, which are highly desirable on modern social platforms to increase traffic and manufacture emotional responses. So the AI advises keeping it up for a while and then finding regular new ways to mess with you, like moving buttons around from time to time just to confuse people and have them engage in new topics.

PS I'm a troll with zero decision-making power on Headfi. If I had power... my precious... I would, I would, muhahahahahahahaha, fear me I'm a god!!! 😈 . Hmmm, I mean, I would handle things reasonably and fairly, of course. Vote me.

A quick update and reminder for everyone, we are still reviewing feedback and considering our current stance regarding Head-Fi's long-standing post requirements, which have been in place since before I registered my profile more than 13 years ago. While we continue our review, please remember that our guidelines still remain in place and posting simply to allow another post may be seen as spam and going against Head-Fi's Posting Guidelines.

My brother and whoever ''we'' is, how can you guys take yourselves serious debating/referring to a 13+ year old rule that's all of a sudden a huge issue? Incredible! 😂

Well, I gave your post a like; closest thing I can do to a vote.

In the meantime, I will just have to confuse our AI overlords by being very unpredictable and think outside the box but strictly within the forum guidelines. I have a plan...

This rule is extremely frustrating. I am trying to maintain a DIY thread and contribute to this forum, spark discussion, and share my ideas and schematics, but it is impossible now. I don't have a ton of viewers and my thread is not highly active. It is impossible to contribute anything meaningful without being able to provide updates in my thread, so I am constantly having to ask friends to bump my thread for me.

Preference is given entirely to the popular DIY threads, others are already dying out and not being updated. It doesn't seem like the mods care much about this, so I might as well be yelling into the wind.

Things around here always seem to take ages to be changed, and they might not even be changed at all.

There was a topic that was locked, and that the staff was going to take a look at, and then it was supposed to be unlocked. Several years have passed, and it's still locked 😅

Maybe we will "adapt" and forget about it, and that's it, no need to change anything anymore 🤷‍♂️

I'm not saying we should stop complaining, but I suspect that there's not gonna be any change. I hope I'm wrong!

They couldn't care less about the wishes of us mere posters, sponsors are the only ones they are interested in

Sure seems that way, especially since this rule magically does not apply to them!

I don't see why certain sub-forums cannot be exempt from this rule.

Yep, it definitely doesn't apply to them, the first two posts in the following thread are by the sponsor....

Well, it's not just @taffy2207's thread. My own J-Rock thread is now also impossible to maintain. I had put quite a bit of effort into it, including an index.

Haven't had the chance to do much listening here of late. But it looks like you've done a great job on this topic! And I hope a solution can be found so you can continue to post there and elsewhere.

I listen to a lot more than just J-Rock, but I started that thread to address an imbalance; J-Rock was totally underrepresented on Head-Fi given how big the domestic market for it is. Which was a shame given how good J-Rock is, especially the indie and underground scene (technically at least, whether you like it is a matter of taste).

Because of this double-posting rule enforcement I have now resorted to posting the actual posts in the "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread, whilst keeping the index in the J-Rock thread. This is an imperfect but workable workaround because:

  • the post itself can justifiably go in the "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread since that day I actually listen to all those songs when I compile the representative list of tracks for the post, so I'm not violating the spirit of that thread (especially with only one or two posts per week at most)
  • the "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread is very active, so I'll never get stuck on mine being the last post in that thread
  • the index in the J-Rock thread still works; it simply gets you to the relevant post in the "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread
  • the post contains a reference and link to the J-Rock thread; but that is not cross-posting of content; so no forum rule violations there either

The main drawback is that those watching the J-Rock thread do not get a notification of new content, but I am relying on those folks genuinely interested checking the date-stamped posts index once in a while to see if they missed any new entries/posts.

TBH, in the end with this workaround the J-Rock thread may actually get more views than it did before 🤷‍♂️ . But I'm not doing this for the likes, I'm just helping (however marginally) to give the indie and underground J-Rock scene a bit more exposure. This is not my preferred solution, but it doesn't violate any forum rules as far as I can tell, nor should it be detrimental to the "What Are You Listening To Right Now?" thread with only one or two posts per week at most. The only thing that differentiates these post from the usual posts in that thread is that there is a short paragraph introducing the band, and a hidden spoiler explaining why the post is there rather than in the J-Rock thread.
