The Class - 8.5/10

Adapted from a book by François Begaudeau, the schoolteacher who stars in it, this film about teaching in a rough public school in Paris is pretty spot on. Many of the castmembers are non-actors who honed their parts through improvisation, so the result comes off quite authentic.

Up - 7,5/10
I simply love this film. Thought it was funny and it looks absolutely beautiful.

District 9 - 8/10
Quite the film really. Interesting story to put it mildly and I though the camerawork/effects etc were all top-notch. Very original!

Up - 8.5/10. Saw it in theaters in 3D so now being able to see it properly in HD (on a 120hz Samsung no less) made it better; I found the 3D version washed out the colours and added blurriness, even while using the 3D glasses. Very good movie

Ink 7/10

Simple tale of a father and daughter combined with a cool art style and supernatural elements.

Saw it again and screw the above. 10/10 I've changed my mind a little about ratings. If a film never moves you to a perfect score, why even watch movies other than to be miserable? The Hurt Locker is the best movie I've seen this year; a perfectly realized, complete vision that never drags. It's only travesty is that it didn't fare better in wide release. I've made it twice second run and probably will make it a third.

Gigantic 9/10 (2008, Zooey Deschanel)

Watched it for a second time last night. I never watch films twice but that afore-mentioned film and another of Zooey's, "The Good Life" are two I've watched twice.

Gigantic, like a lot of her films is quite well put together, even if a little weird. Very subtle and the whole films outcome relies on nothing more than her facial expression, which of course, isn't "animated".. it's the subtleties that count - And I like that!

She seems to dictate the pace of the movies sort of thing, It's hard to explain (especially as I'm no critic with a vast vocabulary), she just makes time disappear lol. She's definitely the best actress of her time (IMO), understated? probably.

That I can understand, though I hardly rate a movie 10/10, but I am still kind of puzzled by people that state that they watched a movie that they did not like much, or that was even bad and then rate it as a 5-6 out of 10. It is subjective but still.

for me 5-6 is an average movie, to receive a 3-4; below average, 1-2 it would have to be one of the worst movies ever made.. plenty of movies I don't like I would rate a 5 or 6 but then again I don't tend to like many movies that I consider to be of average quality.

aka 'Entre les murs'. I absolutely agree. One of the most memorable films from 08.
