Man on the Inside - 9/10
This one is wouldn't have been rated quite so highly if it wasn't for the last episode. It's near perfect and i'm glad they're making a Season 2!
It's about an older retired guy who takes a job as sort of a spy inside a retirement home to track down a stolen necklace. That story is not all that important.
I usually can't stand Ted Danson's characters (especially from Cheers), but I like him here. He's perfect for the role.
The writing is what makes this show so special. It has so many funny lines that made me laugh out loud so hard.
It's a comedy series, but each episode has a connected storyline. There is actually a lot of substance here too.
If you're in your 40s or 50s with aging parents, it may be slightly sad at times. There is some things in here about aging and dementia.
Escape from Dannemora - 7/10
This is a prison escape TV series I both love and hate.
I've seen this once before and somehow decided to watch it again since it's on Netflix.
If Netflix checks their stats on this they might notice that probably less than 10% of their viewers probably finish the entire series!
Why? It moves at a snail's pace. Every scene is twice as long as it needs to me. I didn't mind as much this time around.
There is something seriously wrong with this show. I'm not convinced the female prison employee was as bad as they made her out to be.
They really "threw her under the bus" and it's like they portrayed her as being just as bad as the two convicts!
The series doesn't tell you how bad the two prisoners are until late in the series and they left out some details that were too disturbing to put in the movie.
For example, the guy one of the convicts put in his trunk didn't die on his own due to lack of air. I'm glad they didn't show how he really died.
Then one of the guards got a way lighter sentence than she did. It makes no sense.
They made her out to be some sex addict or something who would sleep with anyone. She claimed none of that happened.
I do wonder why she would bring them hacksaw blades and agree to be their getaway driver.
The actress who played her did do a great job though portraying her. Some of the best acting there is.
She did possibly have a miserable life and was unhappy with her marriage possibly.
Toxic Town - 8/10
Pretty good series similar to something like Erin Brockovich.
Probably one of the saddest shows i've seen in awhile during some parts.
BTW I wonder how many of you still have a DVD or Blu-Ray player connected to your main TV?
I do, but i've probably gone a year now with streaming only. Sad.
I sure wish 4K Blu-Ray players came down in price. I guess most buy a PS5 for that.
I actually still have a working VHS player! It's a Mitsubishi with SVHS connections!
I just can't go back to 4X3 format movies (square box).
One thing i've also recently found is that most super budget 43-55" 4K TVs have super super bad HDR performance.
They generally seem to have extremely dark black levels that are not accurate. I used to love cheap Vizio TVs, but now the HDR is just awful on them.
I own possibly one of the worst 4K TVs there is right now. I paid $300 for it in 2020 or 2021.
All the cheap 4K TVs now have bad black levels. I think HDR is probably bad on the cheapest Vizio, Hisense, LG, TCL and store brand 4K TVs.
I would be so afraid of using a Walmart or Best Buy store brand.
I imagine great HDR can't be found on TVs under $500 maybe?
I miss my old Sony Wega that cost me a small fortune. And it was only a rear projection TV, but had amazing video quality!
