Man on the Inside - 9/10

This one is wouldn't have been rated quite so highly if it wasn't for the last episode. It's near perfect and i'm glad they're making a Season 2!
It's about an older retired guy who takes a job as sort of a spy inside a retirement home to track down a stolen necklace. That story is not all that important.
I usually can't stand Ted Danson's characters (especially from Cheers), but I like him here. He's perfect for the role.
The writing is what makes this show so special. It has so many funny lines that made me laugh out loud so hard.
It's a comedy series, but each episode has a connected storyline. There is actually a lot of substance here too.
If you're in your 40s or 50s with aging parents, it may be slightly sad at times. There is some things in here about aging and dementia.

Escape from Dannemora - 7/10

This is a prison escape TV series I both love and hate.
I've seen this once before and somehow decided to watch it again since it's on Netflix.
If Netflix checks their stats on this they might notice that probably less than 10% of their viewers probably finish the entire series!
Why? It moves at a snail's pace. Every scene is twice as long as it needs to me. I didn't mind as much this time around.

There is something seriously wrong with this show. I'm not convinced the female prison employee was as bad as they made her out to be.
They really "threw her under the bus" and it's like they portrayed her as being just as bad as the two convicts!
The series doesn't tell you how bad the two prisoners are until late in the series and they left out some details that were too disturbing to put in the movie.
For example, the guy one of the convicts put in his trunk didn't die on his own due to lack of air. I'm glad they didn't show how he really died.
Then one of the guards got a way lighter sentence than she did. It makes no sense.
They made her out to be some sex addict or something who would sleep with anyone. She claimed none of that happened.
I do wonder why she would bring them hacksaw blades and agree to be their getaway driver.
The actress who played her did do a great job though portraying her. Some of the best acting there is.
She did possibly have a miserable life and was unhappy with her marriage possibly.

Toxic Town - 8/10

Pretty good series similar to something like Erin Brockovich.
Probably one of the saddest shows i've seen in awhile during some parts.

BTW I wonder how many of you still have a DVD or Blu-Ray player connected to your main TV?
I do, but i've probably gone a year now with streaming only. Sad.
I sure wish 4K Blu-Ray players came down in price. I guess most buy a PS5 for that.
I actually still have a working VHS player! It's a Mitsubishi with SVHS connections!
I just can't go back to 4X3 format movies (square box).

One thing i've also recently found is that most super budget 43-55" 4K TVs have super super bad HDR performance.
They generally seem to have extremely dark black levels that are not accurate. I used to love cheap Vizio TVs, but now the HDR is just awful on them.
I own possibly one of the worst 4K TVs there is right now. I paid $300 for it in 2020 or 2021.
All the cheap 4K TVs now have bad black levels. I think HDR is probably bad on the cheapest Vizio, Hisense, LG, TCL and store brand 4K TVs.
I would be so afraid of using a Walmart or Best Buy store brand.
I imagine great HDR can't be found on TVs under $500 maybe?
I miss my old Sony Wega that cost me a small fortune. And it was only a rear projection TV, but had amazing video quality!

The falcon and winter soldier. 2025 Walt Disney +

Interesting series that I can’t or don’t want to put down. Sociological, psychological, sure good visuals. I’d wasn’t sure about super hero stuff, but sparky rapport and intrigue pull the cgi together. 4 out of 5 puffs

halo 2023 netflix

because someone replied, i can enter a new pick. again was unsure about software game based tv series, would it be a POV exploitation, cgi fail, intrigue void? frankly surprised to the upside again. my wife and i burned through 5 with more blunts than expected. ( she's a gummy girl but i digress) visuals are good, suspense and character development sufficient, yup a tidy fun package, got to give it a non oscar nod 4 out of 5 entertaining inhales. but then again, I'm easily entertained.

The Electric State - 6/10

This had the potential to be something great. So many things kept it from that. Not enough backstory, some pretty average acting and bad writing.
I mean seriously, a war between robots and humans? Who thought that was a good idea. I know it's based off a book.
It feels like someone AI generated a script by feeding it the scripts from 20 different similar movies. So many borrowed ideas.
The two main actors are some of the most bland movie characters ever.
Chris Pratt's character is as generic as it gets. He comes across as... Chris Pratt. Not entirely his fault.

The special effects are pretty good at times. I love the giant robot fights! They look cool too.

IMO this movie would have been better off as a big budget TV series!

The movie is somewhat entertaining though. It also has a few funny parts.

A lot of people won't get the computer references in the film. I definitely did! You might have to be in your 40's to remember all of them.
Stuff like the old Windows screensavers and "You've Got Mail" when someone gets an email (it's from the 90s AOL or America Online).
The PC in the movie is the first one I ever used. At school we learned IBM Basic on it and got to play The Oregon Trail. Maybe it's the IBM PS/2?

I've got a good suggestion to watch instead of this. Try the Spielberg film "AI". It's pretty great and severely underrated. It has some similar themes.
One of my all time favorites is also "Station Eleven". It's a must see and it was good enough for them to release it on blu-ray. It was originally on HBO.
Probably in my top 5 for the past 10 years.

I gave up on them a long time ago. To me they are just not any fun. Like, OK, this should be so entertaining/fun, but instead all that action on the screen is just boring to watch. How is that possible? I guess that even for action sequences there still has to be some sort of intelligent thought going into the script.

When i'm not bored, some comedy in a super hero movie helps.

The one rare Marvel movie I really enjoyed a lot was Guardians of the Galaxy 2. Strangely I didn't like the first one at all. Guardians had a lot of comedy in it.

I really can't think of any memorable Super Hero movie i've seen. Maybe it's time to go back and watch some of the earliest ones? Like the original Super Man movies.

BTW anyone remember a movie called "Dark Man"? It's directed by Sam Raimi (I think). Some call that a super hero movie and I remember loving that one when it came out. I think it's from the 90s.

I also liked Blade and The Crow, but those are probably not true super hero movies.
Totally remember Dark Man! For me, I remember the covers of movies more than anything, especially 80s movies.

Really enjoyed Guardians of the Galaxy as well. Didn't realize it was Marvel!

Companion, which I've already mentioned is so good and I hope some of you will seek it out.

I recently binged the first season of Severance and holy hell it's good. Ya, ya I know it's not a movie, but 9/10.

Reacher (Season 3) - 6.5/10 (all but final episode)

I like this show and have seen all previous seasons. This is the worst, but still not terrible.
It's sometimes hard to say Reacher and his team are the good guys. They will basically do anything and everything to get their way.
Even if it means breaking the law and even torturing people to get info.
Even murdering suspects in cold blood is A-OK to them (and they get away with it).
It's a TV show and not meant to be real life though. I would never knock off points due to this of course.
Overall, this show feels like a big budget version of something like Walker Texas Ranger.
I haven't seen them, but I suspect this series might be similar to something like Road House. Probably not a compliment.

PS if the final episode changes my score, i'll update it. Not likely. Prime only adds new episodes of this weekly, which is very annoying.

The electric state 2025 Netflix

Ok Chris Pratt is sure fire kiss of death. Milley bobby brown grrr you want it to be good. The good? The robots, the war concept, the bad guy in the remote robot. The bad, everything else. Strange stinker but visually amusing but no smoke will really help. 3.5 weak puffs out of 5.

Adolescence - 7/10

This is a recent Netflix release. Everywhere I went online, there were people raving about how good this movie is. Was it perhaps just some marketing campaign? Not likely. It's definitely a film that deserves some attention, especially from parents. One could say it should be a wake up call to parents of younger teens who have unfiltered access to a cell phone, the internet and social media.

This one is about a 13 year old boy who is arrested and accused of murdering a female classmate in a knife attack. It's not based on any single event, but many different similar ones that have happened in the UK.

There is some stuff in here about how supposedly kids are being influenced online by people like Andrew Tate about some sort of "incel culture" or just toxic masculinity in general. I actually had no idea what that incel thing was when I saw it in the movie. This influence is supposedly what led to many homicides by younger people in the UK. In the movie, the kid also seemed to have severe anger issues and couldn't control it. There is also some things in here about online bullying from other students.

The series has each episode done in one shot. I don't know if this is true. This alone is really impressive, but I can't say it adds much to the movie. It makes some parts drag on more than they should.

The best thing about this series by far is the amazing acting, especially from the 13 year old kid. Everyone was perfect. There is no bad acting IMO.

Unfortunately, it's not what I would call entertainment. It's not very fun to watch or very educational That's fine. It's not very in depth about it's subject matter. It doesn't tell me much about it at all. If I wanted to know more about this type of toxic culture i'd have to just read about it online. It gave me a general idea at least.
I actually find it hard to believe that a 13 year old would even pay attention to that sort of thing or be influenced by it. Of course I am not a parent.

It's basically like going through a traumatic experience with someone for 4 episodes. Due to the way they filmed it, you feel like you're experience what the parents are going through. Most movies are not like that these days. One that comes to mind is something like "Come and See". Of course that's a way harder film to watch.

No Other Land - 10/10

This won the award for best documentary at the Oscars.
Every American should see it. It should be on every streaming service for rental or purchase.
I want to see it at every Wal-Mart for sale! At the very least, maybe a Criterion Collection release some day.
Instead, no streaming service has picked this up yet and no DVDs are to be found. What are they scared of?
Uncle Sam apparently doesn't want you to see this and is probably actively trying to suppress the release of this film.
Luckily it's still playing in some USA theaters! There was actually a mayor who tried to close down a theater for playing this LOL

Real life is a movie, sad with terrible reviews and little future but 3 puffs for meglo maniac screenplay with no discernible plot.
