R5, a new Android DAP by Hiby

The lossy interpretation is not necessarily correct. What is discussed in this article is what we already know. Amazon HD and HD Ultra get upsampled and are therefore not bit perfect. That is endlessly debated on Head-Fi and AVS Forums. Can you hear it? You might, I probably can't. But the engineer in me wants it bit perfect, no doubt. This may also be some kind of control over illicit digital copying but this is just a guess.

I think Amazon HD sounds just fine on the R5. However, sometimes I do get small stutters or glitches and I am not sure if that is in the software, limited processing of the R5, or corrupt music downloads.

I have had that on my phone with Amazon and with Tidal and Qobuz, not sure it's unique to the R5. Likely bad app design or something in Android in general.

Would really like to see the a proper parametric equaliser over MSEB. Can't get used to how MSEB works at all makes no sense and trying to use of some known EQ for certain headphones is impossible to implement. The convolver whilst nice doesn't cut it as its limited across one sample rate. Do not want to change for each source it's just not practical for playlists.
There's no need to worry about that, as it only does 44.1kHz and no other. All other sample rate material need to be resampled to that to go through the one convolver. 😅

Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with that arrangement but that's another story... 🤐

Any chance the convolver will be fixed anytime soon so autoeq files will work correctly (without asking you to fix them)?

Well that kind of defeats the point of a high Res player. But I guess it really doesn't have to juice. There is a reason my music software that does heavy DSP are on full size computers.

As CPUs get better on mobile we will be able to do more of that heavy lifting on the go as well. Now you know how a Snapdragon on a music player can be good for the actual sound and not just UI... :D

Same crap here as before. No tracking updates on my ****in 3.5mm to 4.4mm adapter or R5 DAP since August 28th. I have no option but to just wait until November 22nd to file for a ****in refund on aliexpress, as they will not let me get a refund until then. I already know the packages were either lost or stolen by Canada Post, so waiting another month is bull. I hope the piece of crap at Canada Post who stole my DAP is happy with it.
