QUAD ERA-1 Thread

Any comparison's to the Edition XX. I'm trying to decide between the two, both are easy to drive planars but I've heard nothing but praise for the Era-1 while the XX is being compared to its more capable siblings.

Lots of QA issues for Quad per this thread.

HFM used can be a big bargain. Still like to hear the XX however.

We\re positive that their next model (let's assume there's going to be one) will have many issues handled.

Let's hope so, I was very interested in these until the QA parade began. I was reckless enough to buy 5 HFM cans despite those warnings. They have zero issues, but something about these spooked me... Also like an open ear version or for the designers to hear the MrSpeaker E* closed - they know how to do it.

And as long as I'm musing I'd like to hear the Alara and these in the same enclosure, they are encased quite differently and that can make a rather notable difference in the sound.

It's safe to say that every audio product can break regardless of how costly it is. Once that happens, it all comes down to how well the warranty procedure is executed. First models tend to suffer infancy issues as well, it takes time (and usually a fair bit of critique) to have everything down pat.

Yes that's true. Some outfits really take that stuff seriously. I do like them.

How would the Quads fare against Massdrop's ESP-95X?

How would the Quads fare against Massdrop's ESP-95X?

Based on what we know at this point about both models, but not having the chance to compare them, we'll risk saying that Quads would've won anyway.

As ridiculous as this sounds, I feel curious as to how much sound these leak since they look like a semi-closed headphone. Are these open as a pair of Grados? Or do they have just enough openness to breathe?

Can't say, but they leak something for sure. My guess is that not as much as a regular open set of cans, but can someone confirm/deny this please?
