Guys, please let me know, how Anole VX and Solaris compare in terms of bass quantity – both mid and subbass?
Preamble: I had a chance to audition both IEMs. I had sufficient time with N6ii (A01) + Solaris on stock cable + custom silicone tips. The pairing was awesome – full bodied sound, impressive weight and punch. The bass was more than enough.
Pairing of Solaris with AK Futura or DX221 I personally found less impressive. Futura seemed to be too much on the bright side, on both DAPs the sound seemed hollow and not as exiting as N6ii – maybe it is just regular Sabre sound, maybe dx220+ Amp 8 would have played better.
Anole VX were provided for short auditioning as a courtesy from local audio enthusiast. They came with some 3rd party cable, AK SP1000M and stock silicon eartips - the owner unfortunately was reluctant to install my custom tips. The seal was OK, though not so sound-proof as with my customs and the size of tips could be larger.
Anole VX played terrific with SP1000M, but it was just general impression. The time didn’t let me go through various tracks and make thorough inspection.
To cut the short story long: as I couldn’t compare A/B Anoles and Solaris on the same source, the bass behavior is really itching me, because I often listen to house and techno music.
In other words, when N6ii and Solaris produced perfect bass for me (depth-, rumble-, quantity wise), how would Anoles perform? Would the bass quantity be the same, less or more?
@Rockwell75, I followed your path with interest and your impressions that Anoles might have even more bass than Solaris, though with less decay. Solaris performed superb the house and electronic music – very tight and powerful punch.
Thanks in advance for your input!
additional info:
- N6ii (A01) + Solaris played impressive in all aspects. It is literally “my” sound.
- AAW Canary with Dx221 produced on some tracks bloated and boomy bass – too much to my perception.
- N6ii (A01) + Z1R didn’t understand the sound sig. Quite agree with @Rockwell75, the sound comes as if from different sources and not coherent.
- N6ii (A01) + Andro rev.2 - too hollow and weak compared to Solaris.

I agree that the N6ii and Solaris combo is spectacular. Regarding the VX vs. Solaris they are both top tier IEMs imho that each have their strong suits and both excel in their own ways at the same sort of balanced presentation (unlike say, the Z1R, which is going for a more traditional mild V). The Solaris wins on soundstage width, sub-bass texture and if pressed I would probably give it a slight edge on instrument separation. The VX, on the other hand, while narrower in stage, is much deeper. In other words while the "sphere of sound" is wider on Solaris it extends further out on the VX. I would say the VX sound is cleaner, more vivid and more detailed. Both IEMs have a bit of a dip in the upper midrange that, according to people who care about that portion of the FR, takes some of the weight out of female vocals. Personally I have never noticed or been bothered by that region of the FR in either IEM. In terms of bass response, well now this is where things get interesting. Literally my ONLY nitpick with Solaris while I owned it was that I felt it could use a little more punch and impact in the mid-bass region. The sub-bass is beautifully textured and extended but I sometimes yearned for a little more impact and aggression from the signature on the whole, but particularly the lower midrange, midbass region. To put another way, the biggest con of the Solaris sound for me was that it was a little too polite at times. Don't get me wrong-- I LOVE the sound of the Solaris, and am simply splitting hairs here. I have tried various other TOTL IEMs (Z1R, Tia Trio, Noble Kahn etc.) and none could top or even match the sound of Solaris relative to my tastes. I had always avoided the idea of committing to an all BA setup because I had never heard one that didn't leave me yearning for the timbre of DD bass. The closest I'd come was the u12t but on the whole I felt (and still feel) that the Solaris is a better sounding IEM.
Fortunately I got an opportunity to demo the VX at a local meet a couple months ago and while I only had it in my ears for a collected total of less than 20 minutes I couldn't get its signature out of my head for the days that followed-- both for its uniquely vivid presentation and also because it seemed to provide the touch of impact and aggression I was missing from Solaris. Furthermore, while I would still probably give the edge to Solaris for bass texture, the impact and quality of the bass in the VX is the best I have ever heard in a BA and it remains to this day the most satisfying overall sound I have heard from an IEM. In a nutshell-- the Solaris is great for someone who wants a beautifully balanced and laid back sound with a wide open airy stage and delicious DD bass. The VX would be for someone who is willing to sacrifice a bit of width in the stage for a more vivid and impactful sound with bass that, while not dynamic, is possibly as close as can be achieved with a BA.
At the end of the day it's all up to you-- if you love Solaris and it ticks all your boxes then I would say keep it. On the other hand if anything I have said here resonates with you at all, and you have the means, then grab a used VX when one comes up, or demo it if you're able, and see what you think. It may be just what you're looking for. (It was for me

You too can recover from the disease of CFA Solaris, and the only known cure is the qdc VX... Just ask all the patients whom successfully recovered from the qdc VX treatment. Rockwell is a prime example, he used to suffer from the most aggressive form of lofi syndrome that is the CFA Solaris. But with the our patent pending VX treatment developed by our scientists at qdc, Mr. Rockwell is now enjoying his life to its fullest with top tier resolution and clearly. Say goodbye to lofi syndrome, and ask your local qdc shill about the qdc VX treatment today.
This message it brought to you by RUSH- the one true qdc shill.

I only heard the u12t briefly. They are indeed similar but I found the U12t brighter and more fatiguing. Also, as a DD bass lover while the u12t has good bass for a BA I found the bass on the VX more satisfying. I would also give the VX more points for detail, resolution and depth of stage. The differences are subtleties though and, as with everything in this hobby, ymmv.
my sentiments too albeit fatiguing wasn't something i encountered

Have nothing of these, only intention of buying DAP + IEMs combo. Assets of VX are consequences of their fully BA nature – their detailed and crystal sound which someone may find oversharped and fatiguing for long listening. Would enjoy and accept that if VX generates the same or comparable bass response, which is essential in my case.
For example, Andros are way too thin in terms of bass, which strikes the eye (ear) in direct comparison.
I think I shall have to re-audition VX in order to make the clear picture in my head.

Looks great!

So i have VX for demo. I like the resolution of this mids and highs but i find the bass is just too much for my liking. Which 8 series should i go if i like everything of VX but bass. Let me know! thanks
