Q701 impressions thread

Maybe one day I will try an E09k with low expectations, as I really don't expect to hear a difference. Just like I don't hear a difference between my GR01 with my iPhone and the GR01 with the E17.

I just don't believe these are as hard to drive, or as picky as some on here seem to make them out to be.

This is still the best dynamics and biggest soundstage I have ever heard from a headphone. I also don't notice any muddiness. Is the E17 a step (or two) above the E10?

I think the E10 is slightly more powerful.  E10 is 150mW @ 32 ohms while the E17 125mW @ 32ohms.

My Q701 arrived today. First impressions: they actually sound very decent out of the box, still I left my music playing through them for 5 hours while going to school/work, seems like now they've opened up a tiny bit. With the Asgard I have to crank the volume close to 12 o'clock to get the same volume as my D7000 at 10, so definitely not as efficient as the Denon, but I expected that. Build quality is not as good as it seems in pictures but for ~200 bucks I'm satisfied, this will make a good throw-around pair :D

And here's a shot of the Q701 next to its cousin :k701smile:

I have a question to all AKG Q701 Owners, what is the best Amp/Dac i can match with the headphones for under 200$ ?

The Amp/Dac must have either an "Optical Input" or "Analogue Input" so i can plug it to my TV.

So far i have been interested in the Maverick TubeMagic D1 and Audioengine D1.

Thank you.

I would say E17 is a food option. Never used TubeDac (looking into one for myself) but I can say E17 is great for only 150

I'll agree and say E17. It's great for only $140.

E17 is 250mw at 16 ohms, 215mw at 32 ohms, 36mw at 300ohm. Not sure where you found only 125mw at 32 ohm for the E17.

E10 is 200mw at 16ohms, and 28mw at 300 ohms.

Thanks for the reply,

But i believe the E17 do not have an optical input. It's very important because i will watch alot of movies on my TV. Also, i forgot to mention that im looking more into desktop Amp/DAC because i don't want to have batteries to worry about.

yes - they do have optical input.

It does have optical input. The battery life is also very good. I use mine about 2-4 hours a day and only charge it once a week.

I'm not an expert on amp power output, but I thought 250mW @ 16 ohms = 125mW @ 32 ohms.  Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

Where do you see "E10 is 200mW at 16 and E17 is 250mw at 16 ohms"?  I didn't see that on FiiOs specification page

I finally pulled the trigger and purchased a new black Q701 from Ebay dealer .  Now I need to think of a headphone amp . I am thinking of  the Littledot I +  so I can play with  tweaking . Does this amp have enough power to drive the Q701?  I dont need a DAC for now as I will be using the output from the SB Touch or from my Onkyo Receiver for Movies . This headphone set up is for secondary listening only because I still like the sound from my speakers .

Assuming the output impedance of the amp is zero, and the amp can output enough Voltage and current...........

Your math is correct!
